Howdy folks!

Just acquired a 16 plate 4x4 1.4 for my wife. We decided that she wasn't using her Abarth 595 properly and so needed to get something sensible.

Have to say that I really do like it. Nippy, feels well built, decent amount of equipment etc. Need to throw in a set of all season tyres and she'll be good to go.

I had a Jeep Cherokee 4.0 for 15 years that I modified and let go a couple of years ago so can anyone point me in the direction of lift kits and axle lockers? ;)

Rob

Welcome from another 2016 4x4 owner though I'm "down south".

I'm not sure you can get/fit Axle Lockers to our cars. We have a part time 4wd system which is electronic if my understanding is right i.e. isn't a traditional lockable one like the Cherokee (though I'm not an expert and happy to be proven wrong!). Might be worth searching on Jeep Renegade given the 500x is basically a rebodied Renegade

I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek with the axle lockers, but having said that... scored a great deal on a set of all season 225/50r18's and plan to add 20mm to the suspension. That should make the 500x pretty unstoppable on tarmac!

Well, the AWD versions are basically the same as the Jeep Renegade so might go for skid plates after the tyres and lift.

Tyres are being fitted on Friday, which will lift the car by 10mm. The higher profile will make the tyre diameter increase by 3.5% and also make the speedo accurate, as checked with GPS.

Ooh that's interesting. What make and size of tyres are you having fitted?

Tyres are Nankang Cross Season AW-6 SUV in 225/50 r18 99V flavour. 3 peaks certified and only £59.19 each from mytyres (delivered). I'm not intending for this car to do big journeys, so just want to make sure that it grips as well as possible in slippery conditions.

It will be good to see what you think once you have them fitted

One thought though. If you AWD is the same as mine, standard tyres are 215/55 18's and you're saying 225/55 18's which does sound like a good idea, I'm assuming you have checked for any clearance issues?

However unless I've missed something the sidewalls of those are different by only 5.5mm not 10mm i.e. (225-215)*55%

Slight update;

I liked the 500x so much, that I've sold my own car and bought a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. No need for skidplates or difflocks anymore on the 500x :)

Just need a decent set of all season tyres and I'll be set. Uconnect 8.4 is nice but have to take it to a dealer if I want it updated.

Tyres are absolutely fine. The 500x was only ever meant to be my wifes local runabout car, so they fit the bill perfectly. Less than 4% greater diameter so no impact on driveability. Looking forward to the icy weather to give them a decent test.
