Hi new at this I have a Fiat Ducato xlwb Van converted into a motorhome 2017 model and I would like to know if a water trap can be fitted inline before the fuel filter. If not how can you tell if you have water in the filter there seems to be no drain to check if there is I know there is a light on the dash

There is a manual drain at the bottom of the filter.

Just noticed, this is for older models Ducato....

Hi there has been 3 different types of fuel filter since that picture shown the next filter type was black plastic with water sensor part of housing from 250chassis up to around 2016, next the fuel filter canisters came back with sensor screwing into bottom similar to picture but with bleed nipple on top to confuse everybody they got two different colour sensors light grey or black which means the correct filter has to be identified on 2017 version they gone to aluminium housing with paper filter and water sensor inside Iv got no pictures but if any one can put some on we can try identify

Thanks for the info yes the 2017 model has a alum. housing still can not see how to drain water out looking at fitting a water trap but not much space to do this. we travel around and you are sure to pick up bad fuel

I think there's a drain screw in the aluminium bung shaped bit that sticks out the bottom.

I looked at putting a water seperator filter in mine but most aren't rated for the lift pump pressure, in fact lots are only rated for vacuum. Racor 110a is the only exception I found that fit the bill: http://www.expresslube.co.uk/racor-110a-spin-on-filter.html
