Hi to the Fiat forum, newbie Chris (-opher) 'Scacchiera Otto' here. I own a 500 1.3 multijet on 08 plate, with a distinctive roof which has informed my choice of username! I just wanted to say hello, and what an interesting and useful forum this is.

In particular, I've been looking today at the issues with the multijets when the engine oil gets infiltrated with fuel oil and possibility of that being burned uncontrollably by the engine. I've had my car about 6 months, doing about 5k miles. In that time, I have checked the engine oil at least weekly, but never had to top it up. I live in a rural location, and the nearest town is seven miles away, notorious for its traffic, but generally my runs are rural, plenty of time for the engine to get warm and hopefully drive in its optimal condition. The oil thing does slightly worry me, however, and i'm thinking of taking it to the mechanic whom its previous owner had used regularly for a 'winter service'- more to put my mind at ease about the oil sump.

the other slight concern is a certain tendency for the car to feel like it is 'drifting' laterally on certain stretches of road. I think this is the road surface more than the car, as it does appear localised on certain stretches of road, ie on roads you use frequently you know you're going to feel the sliding sideways, and it is localised to what appear to be poor quality surfaces. Unnerving though when first experienced.

But all in all, the 500 is a punchy little thing, heart-warming just to look at, great fun to drive- also the first car i'd ever bought (at 51). Hi to the FIAT Forum, FIAT drivers and especially Cinquecento Cognoscenti; the happiest breed of all. Forza Fiat!
