Not sure if it's really my place to actually open a new thread on here but I've had a poke around and have been deciding on a car to purchase.

I'll give some brief background information.

Currently been driving a Hyundai Coupe SIII 2.0 for just shy of a year now (hence MOT, service and Tax is due and comes in around £500ish)

So I decided why not look at getting something more eco friendly, not for the planet more for my wallet, 30MPG is a tough one in these current conditions!

My issue was this, I had a Corsa 1.2 life and then upgraded to my current car, now, going back to a 1.2 really isn't going to be an option. So I was poking about and noticed that I could get an '08 Punto 1.9 Diesel, so better fuel consumption and with some work, considerably more power than what I've got, and amazingly with apparently almost 60MPG?

Either way it seems a win win, saving nearly half on my insurance, half on fuel and half on road tax with basically no compromise on power.

So basically, do any of you folks out there own the 1.9 Diesel and most importantly, is it any good? The Hyundai has been a totally solid car and other than being bumped into a couple of time (though not the cars nor my fault) my experience with it has been fantastic!

Any thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Grant, welcome to the forum :)

Gotta admit I do like the Coupe's, but these days vehicle running costs are just going to keep getting higher. The 1.9MJ is a solid unit, been around a while and pretty much bullet proof as long as the servicing is kept on top of. As I understand it as well, a remap will free up a bucket load more torque giving decent acceleration without compromising MPG. Have a search of the Grande Punto section for 'MJet' and I'm sure you'll find plenty of threads extolling their virtues, as well as a few with potential issues to be aware of.

Le us know how you get on and don't be afraid to ask questions, we're very approachable :)

I'll get some up ASAP folks. Actually really happy. Will miss my beloved Coupe though.

Hey guys.

Sorry to hijack the thread lol.

I too am looking to buy a 1.9 M-Jet Sporting..

I have read the stickies about technical problems etc.

The car I would like is listed on carpointofpeterborough.co.uk (front page)..

Can anyone give me any hints and tips on what else to look for?

How are Fiat electrics these days? The car has done 55000... does anything need replacing? It has full service history so I can check what has been carried out.

Would an AA/RAC check be beneficial? They do not test electrics though.. so should I buy a sealey EOBD / OBDII Vehicle Diagnostic Fault Code Reader Scanner VS8700 and test it myself?

I look forward t your replies.

Thanks (y)

I've noticed a rake of you going on about the red dot remap etc. my issue is that it's an 800 mile round trip to London. Would cost me more on fuel than a remap. Is it really worth that much?

Cheers.

I'll need to look into that then. For now I've grabbed some screens off the dealers page since I don't get the car 'til next Tuesday.

There's places up north who'll do it just as well :)

Name two? Actually, I'll settle for one. Red dot is a bit far for me, too, but no one ever recommends anywhere else. I've found a couple of places charging between £200 and £300 but they don't have a rolling road to prove anything has changed. The driving experience should be obvious, but it'd be nice to have some figures to go with it and at least I'd know something had changed before driving away.

Thanks mate, just wish I could move my day off forwards to get behind the wheel on this!

Just washed and waxed my coupe then vacuum'd it all out, really gonna miss it. Was up getting it's tyres back to stock and changing my stereo back over to the original as well.

It's starting to sink in now that it's going. Was taking loads of pictures, been the best hassle free car I've known, a whole year and not a single hic-up!

Well that's the car paid for today, just collecting it on Tuesday now. Other than driving the nuts off it on the day, what would you guys generally start with to make it look better?

Bearing in mind I've just paid for it and will have a shoe string budget for the next 2 months.

Cheers for any suggestions!(y)

Not meaning to triple post but thought I'd let you all know I got my M-Jet 1.9 yesterday. I actually can't beleive the grunt this thing has, it totally blows my old Coupe away in acceleration, more than pleased with the decision, manager 70MPG on the motorway after collecting it from the dealer!(y)
