hi there. my name is nate.. over the past weekend i became the proud owner of my first fiat.... i picked up a 76 124 sport spider... the floor is a bit rusty with some thru holes... but all in all not to bad for the 400 bucks i paid.. i got this car to swap engine, trans, and rear into one of my yugos...the seller told me that he had the engine running less than 2 years ago...once i looked under the hood i was a little scared.. the timing belt and tensioner were shot.. and i mean shot.. there was only about a quarter of the belt still there and it was SLOPPY!!!...knowing that this is an interferance engince i did not even try to crank it.....i did however manage to turn the engine with a 1/2 inch ratchet.. and low and behold , she turns...... proceded to go over the car poking at some rust spots found about a gallon of bondo behind the drivers door but everything else seemed to be solid....open the trunk... complete gasket set...and timing belt... not a bad find. .. right?...noticed a new sending unit in the tank and an electric fuel pump... the next day i ripped all the guts out of the inside.. they were to say the least ,,, junk...and right in the dumpster they went..... walking around the car over and over... i could not help but to find myself more drawn to the beautiful body lines,,,, glance after glance,, stare after stare..... like i said i bought the car to swap the drivetrain into a yugo...but what to do with such a cool little car....ahhh an idea......i recently acquired a 327 with a power glide out of 67 chevelle.......myself being a speed freak.. decided what better home for the 327 than this awsome little convertable... so there it is... the spider is getting stripped to bare metal. a frame and a 327....if everything goes right i plan to have it ready for early spring... now that being said... the yugo.....i absolutely want to do this swap..... i want it to be fast... faster than the last yugo i built witch is running a 1.3l fuel injected yugo engine... bored 40 over, h/c pistons,, injectors...ported.. msd..ect.ect.. its runnin about 130hp....(60 stock) not to bad for a car that is about 1300 pounds with me and a full tank,,,.. so my real question at hand ...what can i get this 1.8 engine to make n/a.....has anyone heard of or know of a turbo 1.8l 8v ....... im really leaning towards the turbo since my other yugo is n/a.... what can the trans take....i read that one guy was running a 5.0 with a stock rear so i guess it will handle the power...this was a california car, so it has egr right out of the combustion chamber.... or is that just on the exhaust side...and if it is in the chamber .. has anyone done a direct shot of nos thru these ports..... i am a franchise owner of tech line performance coatings....so the entire engine, trans, and rear will be coated in everything from dry film lubricants to thermal dispersants.....i appreciate anyone who has read all of this lenghty message,, but im really stoked on both of these builds... any info, thoughts, or ideas are more than welcome....thanks so much,,,,take care,,,, nate
