Wing mirror

Hi can someone tell me if the wing mirrors for the 1st and 2nd series multipla are the same? Can the 1st series one be used on 2nd series?

Re: Wing mirror

Not that easy aparently. The key is to count the wires coming out of it and get the same. They have heated, folding, heated & folding combinations which stop them being interchangeable.

Re: Wing mirror

I'd say with some confidence that yes they are the same shape and have the same fixings.

Re: Wing mirror

I confirm that the only difference is the wiring. Tou will see that online you can buy 3 pin and 9 pin units. The 2 nd series is a 9 pin job

Re: Wing mirror

I can confirm:
Mk1 and Mk2 are different.
The wiring on the Mk 2's included 'folding' function.
Which added to the number of wires
The actual units are exactly the same in shape and fixing.

Re: Wing mirror

I don't want to tread on toes, but I think there are a few incorrect statements here. This is my understanding of the various wing mirror variants. I've grabbed some photos from ebay here and there to help augment the words:

Wiring
There are up to 9 wires in a door mirror. The colour codes are:

Blue, yellow and red wires - electric mirror adjustment. As far as I know, all UK Multiplas had electric mirror adjustment, so you'll find these wires on every mirror.

Red/purple and brown/black striped wires - folding mirror motor

Black and white wires - Power for heated mirror element. Only the larger (top) mirror glass is heated, not the little lower one.

Purple wires x2 - Outside temperature sensor. Only present on cars with climate control (not plain aircon) and only fitted on the OS (driver's side) mirror. The tell-tale for their presence is the little black nipple sticking out of the outer rim of the mirror housing.

Mirror type 'basic'
NS (passenger side, left hand) mirror: Part number 735264232. Just the blue, yellow and red wires, in a 7 pin plug. As shown in the two photos.
OS (driver's side, right hand) mirror: Part number 735266577. Same wiring and plug as above. No photo

Re: Wing mirror

Mirror type 'heated and folding'
NS (passenger side, left hand) mirror: Part number 735264236. Blue, yellow, red, along with the black, white, red/purple striped and brown/black striped wires, in a 7 pin plug. As shown in the photo with the white label on the mounting face. This mirror is from a 2007 year-model - that's a facelift 'squarenose'. I'll leave you to decide if it's the same mounting as the previous photos, but it looks identical to me. I can see no difference in the part numbers listed on ePER for later cars.

OS (driver's side, right hand) mirror: Part number 735282487. Wiring and plug as above. Two photos of a new mirror. In the photo where you can't see the two mirror surfaces, not the small, flush circle on the shell, at top left of shot. This is a blanked whole for the external temperature sensor. This mirror type can be retro-fitted with the sensor, by taking the sensor and two purple wires that run to it from your old (broken!) mirror, but you'll need to fudge the wiring as the connector is only 7-pin.

Re: Wing mirror

Mirror type 'heated and folding, with climate control'
OS (driver's side, right hand) mirror only, in the UK at least (I'm not sure if the external temperature sensor is in the LH mirror on LHD models): Part number 735266578. All of the wires in the previous post are there, together with two small diameter purple wires, for the external temperature sensor. Note the little nipple at top left of the first photo - that is the sensor. This type of mirror is only used on cars with climate control; for the round nose, that will be the ELX trim level and for later (squarenose) models, the Elegance and possibly the Dynamic Plus trim spec. Fitted with a 9 pin plug. Three photos of a well-used one from a roundnose:
