As for the 2" v 1.75" dilema.

1.75" is the choice of bore by the company for italy that makes exhausts for the cinq(cant remember the name)..... however they are made for a standard engine.

N/a exhausts need backpressure to perform well and hence in contrast with turbos a straight through exhaust isnt the best. But saying 2" bore is best for all road going cars less than 1275 is like saying all cars with 1275 engines produce the same power.

The exhaust she has (as u can see from the picture) retains all the original bends. Hence the back pressure on the system at the moment isnt significantly affected. However, she will be tuning the engine more and hence 2" is the way to proceed. On the coupes 2.5-2.75 is recommended exhaust so as not to lose power, but 3" (like i and several other have ) is the way to proceed if you are looking to tune the engine to the max. We'll get the car RR'd and find out if its made a difference.

Just out of interest what bhp would be expected from a 1108 with a 1.75 system?

You'd get a little more peak BHP (5 cos the standard cinque box is so appalling?), but back pressure seems to have a better effect on low down and mid range torque, when the engine isnt revving its nadgers off

Alaina whats happened to your voice ;) If you are going to tune the engine on your chinq then yes the 2" should do the job now the reason I mentioned this is because a lot of people don't realise how crucial the design of an exhaust system actually is so to show you what I mean go to the stilo section and read the thread " power flowed " 19/2/06 its in the tech section and I put it there earlier this year there is a very good page from Old school that will blow your mind and then you will see how important an issue it is (y)

Kinda remins me of a bike can, that backbox looks very good quality stainless steel! I think it looks very good, in keeping with the style of your car, which i think looks the dogs danglies!

How is the ice install coming along in your car? Are you going for sheer power, or a multimedia install?

I didn't say that though Ross  I was talking about A series engines, and a 2" bore is a bit too big for a road 1275 (that includes road 1425s based on the 1275 block). It's only when you're talking race engines do you bandy about 2" exhaust bores................;) The RC40 exhaust, considered one of the better exhausts available for minis, has a bore choice of either 1.675" or 1.75".

I was basing what I said on what I know from tuning other engines :)

Yeah, there was the A35, A30....etc. too. CC ranges from 803 to 1275.

any details on Free flow? i got a quote of £340 for a stainles cat back system on my 53 arosa which to be honest seemed a bit dear to me for single leterbox tailpipe exhaust (wasnt asking for twin exit) but was going for it and then many people said they had bad experiences from the ones near me so longlife was recomended but as i say never heard of Free flow?

and alainax i didnt so much mean the money your spending but more so on how your having the car done etc like enhancing the cing lines rather than re create them etc like the other one was with the arch's and spoiler etc
