Punto (Mk1) Punto 1.6 Sporting

Introduction

Well, here he is...

Not a bad looker for the age, in my view at least

The tiny brakes will be first to go but I need to sell my Fiorino van to make space. ;)

Sadly I have to report that my Punto had an argument this morning with a 2002 Vauxhall Corsa that pulled out of a junction into me as I was driving up a hill.

I fear the old chap will not survive as only three of his wheels were the right way up

As well as the bodywork, the front suspension (shocker, wishbone and anti-roll bar) is broken, as it the pipework for the cooling system, the brakes and the steering rack

Even though she's a rare car I dare say the insurers will write her off. :(

Looks reparable though. :bang:

If you get salvage buy back she'll cost next to nothing and should be a cat' C or D. ;)

If you want mine and keep yours for spares let me know.

If the Alfa 147 I've just bought isn't as bad I think it is I may repair and use that. ;)

thanks - will bear that in mind.

Well, I can now off my list one of my burning questions in life, i.e. 'what does it feel like when an airbag goes off' - the answer is 'it bloody hurts'

My first airbag incident involved being hit head on by a pillock overtaking on a blind bend. He was still doing fifty when I had stopped. I made the mistake of wearing a baseball cap (the Yankees were in the playoffs). The airbag hit the brim of the cap forcing my head back so the rest of the bag hit me square in the chin. I was out for a couple of minutes, suffered serious concussion, memory loss and whiplash.

Never wear a baseball cap in a car that has airbags.

Repair estimate came out at £4700!!

Really. I was thinking around the £500 mark including a complete respray.

Insurers will have elevated prices so the car will need to be replaced instead of repaired. Government guild lines dictate that as many cars need to be written off as possible to aid economic recovery.

Have the injury shysters been on to you yet?
