Hi guys, I have finally got around to taking some photos of my little Uno, available here at my website:

Towards the bottom you will find a pic I took when I first got the car for comparison.

Please let me know what you think, your comments will be appreciated.

Uno Piccies

Well-done Marko,

Looks really Nice!!!!

I wish my Mk1s were in this state! Unfortunately they have both seen the inside of a crusher :dead:

I’m looking after my Mk2, hopefully drop a Turbo in it one-day LOL.

Regards All,

Cheers! Yeah I seem to be pretty lucky with this Uno - it was well looked after and low mileage.
As a result, it seems to be one of the only mk1s I have seen on my travels!

I drove nearly 1000 miles on the motorway the other weekend (x2) and I didn’t see any (other) Unos at all.

Have you got round to cleaning the engine bay yet? I did mine yesterday lol.

Also have you cleared out all the drain holes? I reckon the door ones could be located better; so I moved mine when I rebuilt driver door lower skin- That reminds me I need to check them - and look inside the passinger door.

Regards All,

Um no - its still quite a mess! I think that will be a job for better weather (and when I have more time!).
I still have some more rust to deal with (God I hate that stuff!), but am thinking of getting an exhaust trim (nothing tacky, just a plain straight chrome one to smarten up the back end) and investing in some seat covers - I just hope that the Universal ones fit OK!

Regards,

Marko

Second hand Turbo or SX seats make a whole new ride... I got a full set for UKp £50. It’s only 6 bolts to replace the lot – and the rear seat back splits 60/40 –

Other people have paid around Ukp £40 for seat covers.

Mk2 seats will fit a MK1 lol.

Don’t forget to clear the drain holes or the rust will return with avengeance…

Regards All,

PS I found the Megagamma (attached) funny! Thanks for the link

That is a very clean mk1 Marco. Well done on making it look so nice.

I have an '86 mk1 45 S that is in pretty good shape apart from the drivers door. Some of the mk1's seem to last very well. If you get a good one hold on to it!

Mine is pretty standard apart from an SX dashboard with tacho, SX clock/ mirror unit and turbo rear hatch. Also have some X1/9 alloys to fit when I get back to the UK.

As for the seats, all the 'S' model mk1's had better trim and a split folding rear seat. But sometimes turbo interiors turn up at reasonable prices and they are a straight swap.

Definitely worth keeping the door drain holes clear as Uno doors are a weak point for rust. Also worth getting some 'Waxoil' (sort of cavity wax) and injecting it inside the door.

If you have the time I'd also remove the trim and check the paintwork inside the door. It's often very thin and/ or not sprayed on very well, which is why Uno doors tend to rust from the inside out particularly from the bottom. For lasting protection you could clean the metal and spray/ brush on anti-rust primer and new paint. Even Smoothrite/ Hammerite would give better protection than the original Fiat paint!

Once again, well done for making your mk1 Uno look so clean. It's nice to know there are other mk1 owners out there cosseting their cars :)

Thanks for the positive comments Chas!
I'm just taking care of the car as she was in good condition when I got her, though I think I've managed to improve her here and there and make her look pretty fine for a 16 year old car!
I shall certainly look out for those drain holes and keep an eye on them. I know for sure that the passenger door is in pristine condition, as at New Years I had some scummy chav wack a screwdriver in the passenger door, and so I ended up delocking the door and filling and painting her. I was shocked, as I expected to find a mountain of rust in there!
Anyway, my V5 says its her 16th birthday on the last day of the month, so I think I will get that exhaust trim and some seat covers if I can get some reasonable. I am tempted to replace the seats tho, well the driver one at least since it is a bit malformed from a previous owner.
As for the colour - I know that it is a bit green (and not exactly my fav colour) but hey it means it stands out and is easy to find in the car park - plus all my friends recognise me immediately when I drive past!!

Cheers,

Marko

No problems Marko, it's nice to see such a clean mk1 as they are getting pretty rare these days.

My mk1 is 19 years old, not as clean as yours, but structurally in very good shape for such an old car. It's never been welded and doesn't need any!

It's a 3 door model, and when I bought it both doors were rusted out at the bottom. I was lucky to find a rust free passenger door on Ebay in almost the same colour, which is why I painted and Waxoiled the inside as I don't want it to go rusty. If I can find a good drivers door then my little Uno would be virtually rust free. Not bad for a car coming up to it's 20th birthday!

My paint is 'Rosso Red', and has done the usual red oxidisation trick. When I get back to the UK in April I'm going to give it a really good going over with cutting compound, T-cut and good polish. I did some last year and it came up a treat.

As for your colour, I really like it. It's a sort of turquoise green colour. Not many Uno's in that colour, and with yours polished up it really stands out. I think it looks great.

Good luck with keeping it in such nice shape!
