Punto (Mk1) my mk1 75.

Introduction

i got my Punto about 6 months ago in very good condition, generation '96, clean, no rust, no big dents, well kept engine and all parts.. for the money i gave it was almost too good to be true..

yes it had steel rims, but it had an sporting spoiler in the back, foglights, sporting center console..

and then i found out that it was an sporting.. once in a lifetime.. but it had been crashed by some of the former owners, so it's still an sporting, just from the windshield to the back.. but i also found out that the front end was repaired pretty good, it keeps a straight line and doesn't pull to the side unexpectedly (as it would if not done properly)..

so then some changes came, since it has yellow seat covers i got an yellow gear stick knob.. also some white side direction indicators and led lights for the back registration plate..

and then the radio that i got with my car, some chinese c**p (Sound Dragon i think) started to give me headaches.. it butcered any cd i put in, not only on bumpy roads, but also on even ones and while standing in place  so i threw it out and put in an Pioneer DEH2200UB, basic one with about everything i need from an car radio.. also, me and my friend made the back panel from plywood and put in 5x7 Hertz oval speakers, also enough for what i need for now..

so, after some time, my wheels started to get on my nerves.. ok, new tires were on them (Bridgestone B330 EVO) but size 155/80-13 (n) i thought of getting bigger steel rims and bigger tires but then a good offer came my way.. 25€ for 4 pieces of original alfa rims (i think from the 33 model),with tires (2 good,2 dead :D)

so now it looks like this

also, i have an laguna lip, black front direction indicators, momo steering wheel head and abarth driver bucket seat waiting to be mounted, and a lot of plans but almost no money, so this one is going to be a loooong project.. so stay tuned :D

p.s. i'm not too good in english and i probably butchered it but i hope you'll still understand :)
Re: my mk1 75

lowering is planned,as are many many things, but not much more.. i say "more" because former owner already lowered it.. with cut springs.. that just can't stay that way.. so i think when i get money i'll get an Vogtland set (4 springs 4 shocks)..

as for the rims they were bought accidentaly, i didn't plan that, but i ran into them and just took'em =) maybe some distancers would help it, pop out the wheels a bit (2cm maybe)..

i won't go too far in styling, nor in performance, i'll just make the best that suits me.. but it will take time.. a lot of it :D

Re: my mk1 75

sorry man, all mine :D those,as i said, are original alloy rims from some alfa, 33/75/something of that age.. with 185/60-14 tyres =)

pics are taken with Nokia 5130 XpressMusic, 2mpx camera, that's why they're not so good.. i'll have to borrow from some of my friends..

btw close future plans : forementoined Laguna front lip, Abarth bucket seat to replace the drivers one, black front indicator backgrounds, toora pedals, MAYBE some sideskirts to match the front lip, painting calipers and drums.. and also MAYBE seicento rearview mirrors.. all when the money comes.. :D

Ahh i'll go for a search then :) Thanks for the info!

Nokia 5130, not a good camera phone. Just get a cheap camera... Can't cost more than £30, not sure on how much that is where you are.

Ooo i've already got sideskirts on my Punto  Don't know where they came from, look factory fitted.

Your plans sound good. Keep us updated

Re: my mk1 75

so, as it usually goes, my plans got derailed a bit, but that is not necesarilly a bad thing :D

so, as I said i would, i painted the calipers and drums about two weeks ago.. took me nearly 4 hours with washing rims.. it's not so visible through the rims but hey, i know it's there and it makes me happy :)

Re: my mk1 75

some time passed so i think it's time to show off some new things :D pics are, once again, not good quality, but i'm still waiting to get an opportunity for a better camera, and since all spare money is going into my car.. it'll take some time :)

first of all, new muffler and tail pipe 60mm diameter for a better sound (paired up with my Sole air filter sound pretty good)

and blacked out side indicators (made by me)..

and then came the thing i always wanted in my car, even before i owned it..

the OMP Corsica 350mm (replica, not the original)

so now i'm satisfied, but just until the middle of this month.. since i currently have stock shocks, -1.5cm front springs and -1.5cm rear CUT springs i think it's the right time for a change.. so i will buy renewed shorter shocks and -5 Eibach springs.. that should lower and stiffen this baby =)

and also, new winter tires to replace my rear ones (current front Kleber tires will go to the rear).. i mean, Fulda Carat is great, but they have 11yrs, they don't grip as much as the first day :bang::bang::ROFLMAO:

hello people, first of all happy new year to everyone and may it be better than any before :D

now, for the car.. some pretty big changes have been made since the last time i wrote here..

the most impotrant one is that springs and shocks have finally been replaced by Eibach -60mm springs (not -50) and with shortened and stiffened (refilled) shocks.. now the car is best for testing new roads as it will find even the smallest bump, stiff as hell.. but it handles much MUCH better than before..

also, as the original wheels fell in due to their offset, 15mm spacers were added to rear wheels, so now it looks and also handles better..

the headlights have also been replaced with black ones, H1 "xenon mega white" lamps put in, and H3 "xenon white" ones in foglights..

as for the details, got new universal carpets that will be re-done with yellow edge instead of red, got toora rally pedals that also need to be fastened with screws, and for the final touch, got myself fake license plates with my forum nickname and my birth month/year (these of course are used only for photographing sometimes, they're not for driving around)..

as for the negative parts, the second bucket seat jut ran away in front of my nose.. :( first the abarth one,and now the sparco junior one.. :bang::bang::bang:

and that about sums up the year 2010.. year 2011 was supposed to start tomorrow but i have to go to work (although i'm on vacation this week) so it will have to wait some more.. the first updates will be:

-painting the wheels in white
-tightening those pedals the right way
-taking foglights off, cleaning them, and returning back

and let's not forget, some new pics =)

Happy new year to you too :)

Not much I can say about the car apart from WOW. It really does look amazing now. The suspension looks bang on there, 60mm drop and 14" alloys = Perfect.
Think I'll have to follow you with that idea!

Pictures aren't too bad, I like your friends Golf Mk1, Looks great... I've just turned down a Golf Mk1 GTI project :(

You'll get the seat you want eventually! Just take your time and get the right one. (y) That way you don't regret buying the wrong thing.

Since seeing your car first, I've been on the lookout for your alloys... They are rather rare over here in the UK, as for you painting them white, WHY?! looks great like that! :(

tnx for the comment man :)

my friends golf is kinda low budget rally style, he's a student, doesn't work, so his budget is even lower than mine.. he had and mk1 75 also, but he fell asleep behind the wheel and totaled it.. :( then he had golf mk1 gti but that one drank too much so he got this :D

as for the seats, i had the opportunity to buy both, both in good condition, but no money at the time :( the suspension is very stiff,as the shocks are original ones shortened and refilled, when i raise my front end of the car to take down the front wheel, the rear one is the first to lose contact with the ground :D

the wheels.. well, you must admit alfa 90s are also rare and so are their wheels.. although i've seen another mk1 with those rims nearby me.. the people put them on not knowing what they are, just so they don't have steel rims.. i'm painting mine because they have gone matt, the left two still have the shine as original ones, the right ones look dirty even when i wash them thoroughly :( maybe polishing them would do the trick, and i will see as it will be done as the preparation for painting, if it works out, forget the white =) but if it doesnt.. some people said i should paint them black, but i don't like black rims on a dark car.. i also had an idea to paint the center and spikes in car color (672a) and polish the edge and the inside.. but i gave up on that so they will most likely go to shiny white..

also many people said the wheels are ugly as hell.. but i've kinda grown to them, and at this moment the only change i would go for are Speedline Monte Carlo 6.5x15.. white of course.. maybe i would settle for momo torque 3000s but i doubt it.. and no other could or will replace the ones i have now.. :)

the spoiler is from sporting, idk where it came from, it was on the car when i bought it :D

and of course i couldn't stand still so today i tried to polish my wheels, and as that didn't go well i have painted them white.. the result.. people have different opininos, but i think they look awesome :) refreshed to say the least.. :D

while i tried to do it the quickest possible way the night came, so pics are once again not the best, but maybe tomorrow will bring some better ones.. and also, the screws will be painted black, so the job is done properly :)

also, notice another nice thing in the garage on the fourth pic :)

They do look better than what I thought they would, Almost rally style alloys (y)

If it were my set of alloys I would have done them a colour between your car and black. :D

Keep going with the car, there can't be much more for you to do to it?

@Rawb - tnx mate, that's what i was going for.. as for much more to do.. let's see : drivers seat, maybe even the others, carpets, sporting sideskirts (if possible due to low car),front bumper with wider opening, front laguna lip (also if possible), color coding the bumpers, also thinking about seicento rearwiew mirrors, tinting the windows, engine swap (when i get the money i'm thinking about mk1 GT3 or uno mk2 turbo engine).. and that's only what i came up with in one minute :D as always, money is the biggest problem, but on the other hand, the slower you progress the more you enjoy every small change you make..

@MFrV1 - the black center caps are a possibility but i think they would jump out too much.. the screws/bolts/whatever_you_call_those_4_things_that_hold_the_wheel_my_english_is_pretty_bad will be painted black, small contrast but enough.. i even thought to do a red line on the edge of the wheels (like the one on these black wheels http://i37.tinypic.com/2j5nntt.jpg) but that's still on hold for now.. the first thing is to see how good the paint will hold on, will the dirt be easy to wash etc..

hi neighbour :D , nice car but too bad it's a 5 door, the 3 door looks more sporty but the 5 door is more comfortable for passengers comming in and out... who cares about passengers :D keep up the good work

well hi to you too neighbour =) you could've also commented on fiatisti or crotuners forums, not here where i see the comment more than a month later :D

anyway, long time no news =)

not much has been done on the car since the financial situation is not at its best, but here are some new pics with new headlights and sprayed stoplights (transparent black)

and here is an video of the last Fiatisti meeting (Fiatisti - croatian fiat club - www.fiatisti.hr ).. we were invited by RKH (croatian renault club) to their meeting..

not the best quality, but it shows the important stuff.. enjoy :D
