Re: Blu's Suzuki Ignis Sport

Ok so further to the last update, the other thing that is happening is I decided to sell the ITBs that i had bought ages ago and start collecting stuff to turbo convert the car... now due to the fact i've kinda decided to go full send I need lots of fancy expensive parts so this is going to take a while merely due to the costs involved.

But so far I've amassed the following:

The chosen turbo for now, maybe upgrade this once it is all up and running but it should do for my aims i think.. its a garrett GT1752s as found on some volvo T5 engines

A cast turbo manifold, this has the option to run an external wastegate but for the time being the turbo i have is internally gated so that will just be blanked off, but perhaps in the future if i swap turbo......

A billet adjustable wastegate actuator, currently fitted with a 4psi spring, nice and low for getting it up and running but that will get changed - the stock actuator is like 15psi or something and although i probably will end up running something around there i'll start low and build up.

Stainless flange and pipe for the turbo outlet, its 2.5" same as the outlet on the turbo, ultimately i want the whole exhaust to be 2.5" all the way to the back (stock is 1.75")

High flow return style fuel rail, car is returnless from factory but this will be modified to be return style with rising rate reg - I already have a reg in the garage but no picture.

And the final bit atm, delivered yesterday, the engine this will all be built around.

Its a M16A from a ZC31s Swift Sport, so thats the 1.6 swift sport from around the same time as the Ignis was new. Its basically the same block and the Ignis' 1.5 with the exception that it has oil squirters for the pistons. Other difference are 83mm throw on crank rather than 78mm, the connecting rods are 2mm shorter and the pistons completely different design. Stock both engines are 11:1 CR. The inlet side is different with a alloy manifold and fly-by-wire throttle. So not hugely different but i wanted the oil squirters and secondly you can buy more off shelf internals for these over the 1.5 - so plan is a complete tear down of this new engine, rebuild it up with 9.0:1 forged pistons and frrged connecting rods, have a cnc block guard fitted, arp mains and head studs. Then bang it in with a standalone ecu to control it.

Got a new toy... an engine stand.

Engine has basically all the external pieces off now, and on the stand. Ready for some cleaning and full tear-down.

Re: Blu's Suzuki Ignis Sport

Well engine is all stripped down, I didn't really take many pictures or anything but here's a little video of the aftermath. Did actually take the crank out and the oil squirters after this video as well.

Overall, looks very good condition - now waiting for the machine shop to get back to me, been waiting few days so hopefully he is just busy and the company survived lockdown as this cnc guard will cost alot more somewhere else where they never have done one and dont have the files for the cnc saved and need to design it all from scratch

Re: Blu's Suzuki Ignis Sport

January update..

Not really much to say. The cinq and the Alfa arrived last year and all this stuff has been buried and inaccessible.

Car is mostly fine, MOT due in few days and it's now decided, after all these years to throw the engine management light on.

Pre-cat lambda sensor heater circuit error. So for the sake of 40quid I'm just gonna replace that sensor without even looking at the car and hope it really is the sensor and not a wire or connector cause I'm just too busy to play with this car right now lol.

So I guess some pictures

Earlier in the year when I was allowed to go places I went up York a few times, to my old house - as my sister is building a house next to it so I was really meant to be doing that all year had it not been for a pandemic.
Weird for me to see this car there though!

You might notice it's on the old wheels again, that partly cause I need to change the suspension a bit to make them fit right and then get and alignment but also partly cause I was driving to and from York and I figured why not use up these not as good tyres just driving up and down motorways.
But actually right now it's on its winter wheels..

I'll get back to this project once the panda is fixed and the Alfas also fixed (See my other threads).

Re: Blu's Suzuki Ignis Sport

Well been quite busy messing with the suzuki of late, trying to get through all the stuff i've been putting off because other things have taken precedent.

So first off was changing the clutch. I've not had issues with it slipping or anything but it got so heavy I been fearing the clutch cable would snap - so the assumption was the pressure plate was worn, which was confirmed when it came out.
Not the worst I've seen by a long shot but pretty deep groove in the fingers.

Disc itself wasnt that bad unsurprisingly but plenty worn compared a new one.

This was a massive job cause some idiot fitted loads of bracing to his car so i had to remove the arb to get the underbracing off. And omg getting all that stuff back on is a nightmare in itself. But took the opportunity to fit my uprated Cusco ARB at the same time

I fitted a new clutch cable at the same time, and I removed the old bushes from the shifter cables and replaced with some solid brass ones a friend made, no pics of this but its hardly exciting stuff. But the clutch is so light now, actually going to take me a while to get used to it as its night and day different, keep nearly stamping a hole in the floor when i change gear cause i'm so used to it being really really heavy lol, and the brass bushes have really slickened up how nice the gear change feels too

And then today I've fitted my adjustable panhard bar - just set to same length as the standard bar for now. The car is due a trip to get the tracking done at some point soon so I'll get them to make sure its perfectly centred when I do that.

And lastly, new exhaust. I love my old exhaust however, its only a backbox and the car has always had the stock mid-pipe and crucially my Whiteline rear ARB kit clamps to the bottom of the axle and the lovely SuzukiSport exhaust I've had on the car is an under axle one and there just isn't space for an ARB between it and the axle. A fellow ignis owner I know recently rolled his car on a track-day at Knockhill and kindly sold me his exhaust which is a custom stainless cat back system made by his local Longlife. I have been super worried about it not clearing my mid-brace but i needn't have worried, it is really well tucked up and actually has more clearance from the brace than the old exhaust

here's a little video of the new exhaust, and yes, I let the car warm up to operating temp before i revved it so high
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yb8laVlf3_8

And I think that is everything I've done to it recently. Next job, serious deep clean and machine polish - probably do the headlights too and ceramic coat them again.. And i have new stickers.....

Re: Blu's Suzuki Ignis Sport

Further stuff, cars needed a deep deep clean for a while. I've started but not finished, was so bad couldn't finish it in a day.

As always I started with some snow, gotta take a pic, it's rules lol

After that a 2 bucket wash, then rinsed, then fallout remover, another wash and rinse, then fallout remover which my camera couldn't really pickup but it was pretty bad. Then another wash and rinse, then I went round with tar remover and then, yes you guessed correctly, and wash and rinse.

I started with my DA polisher after that and managed to do the bonnet and all one side before it got too dark to continue.
Few pics showing the difference, will try finish up today.

Re: Blu's Suzuki Ignis Sport

So took the Ignis to a dyno day held by Wornout Racing at Hartwell Autosport Developments on Sunday.

The Iggy did 3 pulls, one 118hp and two 120hp, i'm very happy with that result tbh.

Heres a few pics from the day, there is more here - https://www.fiatforum.com/gallery/sh...y.php?cat=4277

The observant may also notice it has new numberplates, the old ones were getting a bit nasty - not particularly happy with the quality of these either but they are nicer than what was on there for now.
