Hello. can someone offer advice please? My marea 1.9jtd is leaking water around/near the heat exchanger. The black thing, where the oil filter screws on. I've sorted the pipe that comes down from the engine top, by cutting the corroded pipe and using a longer hose. A common problem from what i've seen. There is still a leak. it seems to be from the body of what the fiat dealer called the heat exchanger. I can get one out a scrapy for £20, but i'm not sure how to dismantle it and if there will be any pitfalls. it looks like there are just 2 hex bolts - but on first attempt they are very tight, so i'm suspicious it's mayby not such a simple job. I would be gratefull if anyone can offer help, experience of similar issues. I'm guessing the likes of radweld wont work?. Cheers.

its the oil/water heat exchanger. the thin steel casing of the exchanger is probably rusted, pitted and corroded from salt damage. when you unscrew the filter there is a large allen head bolt visible. remove this, and the exchanger comes off the oil filter housing. the bolt may be very tight, so make sure allen key fits properly. I repaired mine using silver solder and a blowtorch, or one could also braze it. A scrappy replacement might be a better option, and I'm nearly sure the ones off older peugeot and citroen diesels are the same. very expensive new off fiat..

Hi thanks for that help.
The allen/hex bolt was 12mm.
Got the replacement out the scrappy, and fingers crossed, seems to have cured it.
cheers.
