Hi all,

Was wondering if I could have some advice about my recently purchased Fiat Punto 1.2 Active (8V) 04 Reg? The driver's door lock does not turn at all when I insert the car key. The central locking is working as I am opening and locking the car via the passenger door lock.

Now I'm not going to do the replacement myself, the place where I work has a workshop maintaining LGV trucks and one of the mechanics is going to help me out. According to the new garage which I used to service this car (not going back there, total ripoff), it's only the barrel that needs to be changed. So technically I could get a new barrel and key set but would that disrupt anything in the ECU?

After reading some of the posts here, I suggested to Les the mechanic at my workplace to see if he could swap the barrel from the passenger's lock as that won't really be used anyway so that I can keep all the locks limited to one key. He's not seen my car yet but will have a look at it on Monday. I read that for Fiat punto locks, it's only the barrel holders that are left and right hand specific, the barrels themselves are interchangeable. Can anyone let me know if that is applicable to my car?

Wondered if any of the fiat punto gurus can suggest any ideas too - If the barrel swapping fails, would I need to get a complete set of locks, keys & ecu ?

Thanks :)
