hi,

im just wondering (as usual! lol :D ) when i first start driving am i going to find 1.1/1.2 etc fast? im used to a family SLOWLY driving upto the speed limit, and obviously as most young drivers i will probably floor it all the time LOL :D , so am i going to find them fast? or just slow as **** like you all call them? :) thanks, all opinions welcome! (y)

I found my 1.1 fairly quick, that was coming from driving a 1.0 04 plate Corsa (my instructors car) and from driving my mums 1.0l Suzuki thing.

But after driving my dads car (a 2.0l Citroen C5) it seems soooo slow.

YES

i learnt to drive in a 1.4 yaris VVTI and i loved that car. got the uno and that was slow, but because i was on my own it felt fast.

now the punto is hell of alot quicker than the uno, and when i put my foot down i get a response as i do it (uno had to think about it before it responded) im still getting used to the pick up on the punto and i must say.....i love it :D. at 19 y/o i dont think i could ask for more fun from a car!!! (until i get my mini  :slayer: )

youll enjoy it beau, just remeber no speeding!!

i learnt in a 1.4 turbo diesel and it was **** slow compared to my uno on acceleration but obviously more responsive at higher speeds.

all in all i'd rather have my uno but i know that it is realistically a **** slow car....just waiting for my turbo :D

Drove a tipo 1.4 when I had just passed and after that a 1.9 TD Tipo. Stung like a cut full of sea water on insurance but boy was it worth it!

Didn't feel any slower or faster since it was the family 1.4 tipo and my dad never drove it slowly. He's now gone over to the dark side with a volvo.. Should have seen 40 years old coming..

I learnt how to drive in a 1.6 Focus n then bought a 1.6 Tipo, there were about the same I guess, Tipo being a bit quicker off the lights etc because of no drivin instructor present :D

but I've driven a 1.0 n 1.2 and Fook me they are slow, never again. Next car I get has to be 1.6 at least.

My 1.2 is fast enough, anything faster and I would kill myself in it  As a new driver it will be plenty fast enough for you anyway, you'll want to take it steadily until you have enough experience to make judgement calls and can respond to conditions.

It's no good just comparing engine sizes anyway - the general feel of the car and power can vary quite independently of the engine size :)

Well take a punto 60,

then give it a +20bhp chip so thats 80bhp

Then there are those 99 quid turbo chargers on ebay, apparently they are good for 50 bhp

so that 130bhp, and your in punto GT territory.

SO much cheaper than buying a punto GT

I think no matter what your first car is, it's fun because it's just you in there, you decide what speed you want, any car can wheel spin in the wet! and generally the thrill of driving mean you can have a really slow car and have fun.

Depends IMO whether you have use of another car. When I first got in my uno after driving a 1.9 TD for 4 months I assumed the car was faulty lol....

But it was still a super fun car!

1.1 or 1.2 is big enough for your first car, besides insurance for younger drivers will more than likely keep going up to the point till you come to drive. To insure the Punto at 17 it was a touch over £1350 (so it cost around £50 more than the car!) for myself and that was the cheapest i could find, Norwich was £2200  - bear in mind i didn't go on the parents insurance, i started outright; solo.

If you want something bigger then go for a nice 1.9D Renault car (19, 11, Megane) or a 1.7TD Vauxhall (Astra) as there fairly cheap insurance.

To be honest you don't want to be driving fast with so little experience on the road. A 1.1 or 1.2 will easily do 70mph, bearing anything over that is breaking the law anyhow. Unless you have a private racetrack .

Maybe get a 1.4 85 16v Punto?

Try going from a punto mk 2.5 with 60 BHP to near enough the same car (excluding interior and exterior eye candy!) but with 130 BHP, Punto HGT!

My Punto's acceration scares me sometimes :D

MY first car was a 1.1 106 and it felt fast..... :D

Bearing in mind there was something wrong with it that made it use more fuel but when i changed to my 1.4 corsa sport there wasnt much difference.

Most people on here are right tho. Get the experience with the 1.1/1.2 then think about moving up..... 3 years ago i was driving a 1.1... now i got a 260bhp+ coupe!!! ;)
