newer cars are considered safer to both third parties and driver so insurance claims will be less, so they get cheaper insurance, you are not just insuring your car but also the damage you could do with it

That's interesting if it is true. Newer cars cost more to replace though, so would have thought that point would balance things out?

Define safe? Cars are the safest places in the world, until you put someone behind the wheel. If I'm a 3rd party in my Sei, and see a 60 plate Range Rover pull up along side me I'm not going to think 'Hmm, brand new, very safe' I'm going to think 'There'd better not be some ignorant tw@ behind the wheel of that monstrosity or I'll end up getting killed'. 'Safety' is all good and well, as long as people don't consider themselves invincible behind the wheels because they have a 5* NCAP rating.

Anyway, that was a bit OT, as said you're not just paying for your car, your paying for the potential damage you could do with it - which is based on age, location, how many miles you'll cover, even your occupation. So unless you want to move to Orkney and become a sheep farmer, you might be a bit stuck I'm afraid ...

if someone runs out in front of you in a newer car they are supposedly less likely to get as many injuries than if you ran them over in an old car.

other things are supposed to lessen injuries so instead of insurance having to pay for life care for some one who ends up in a wheel chair, they will only have to pay for a few broken bones an few months off work.

cost to replace a new car is peanuts compared to what they have to pay in compo

yes newer cars cost to replace but your third party fire and theft.
they will only replace it if its stolen or burnt out, but think if you hit another car how much that car cost and then some idiots claim for unnecessary injuries.
the average road death costs one million pounds.
