Sound deadening is one of the most important parts of creating an ICE install. Your saying you have £2500 worth of ICE and never had any sound deadening or even thought about sound deadening? You will be in for a shock then! It will make a huge difference if applied properley and enough of its used.
The normal places for you to do are any large area of metal sheet i.e. Doors, boot, roof, floor, bulkhead.
Start by getting enough material, you don’t want to start doing it, get half way through and realise you need some more. To start with, I would aim for 2 layers on the doors and 2 layers in the boot. If your car is a hatchback, then use another 2 layers on the rear quarter panels. This should give you a huge benefit perhaps even tempting you to invest in more to do more layers on the doors and boot etc… and start with the roof and the floor.
Start by taking of any trim or any fixings, so that you can get to the bare metal of the car, using a hairdryer (or if your posh, a heat gun) gently heat the material up, this will improve its stickiness and its ability to mould around corners and bumps. When you have heated it up a little bit, get sticking it on! Use the biggest single piece of it as you can, don’t throw away any bits that you need to trim off, just stick them on where they’ll fit, every little bit will help. Put a sheet on the door panel and then use another sheet to do the metal part that holds all the trim etc… but cutting out all the holes and folding the material round. The same applies for the boot, but it is a lot simpler, jusy remove the carpetting and stuff, stick it all done and replace the carpet over it.
This is basically how to do it, it is really simple and really effective. Once done, you will notice adifference. This is a rough guide and my descriptions are crappy so I apologise for that.
Oh, and make sure you clean surfaces that it will be applied to with white spirit or something.
Dynamat Extreme is regarded as the best but Im sure other stuff is as good (and a lot cheaper too)
