Hey,

Just installed my new Kenwood HeadUnit. Also attached is the Connects2 iConnect FM.

I had to connect the red power cable coming from the iConnect FM into the red ignition cable on the HeadUnit Harness...

Now, with my previous cd player, it turned on without the ignition being on. This is also the case with my new HeadUnit however I am not sure if the iConnect FM is still switched on because when I plug the iPod into it, the iPod starts to charge...

Could this be a problem or is it ok for this to happen. Ive heard of people having flat batterys but only due to leaving headlights on...

Any help would be great,

Cheers

i had this problem with my screens, basically your feeding the transmitter 12v all the time. there are 2 ways about this. either fit an inline switch to the transmitter. or make the live to your headunit ignition switched, otherwise your battery will go flat

How would I go about doing this?

Thing is, my battery never went flat when I had my previous player in and I ALWAYS switched it off when I left the car, so it must cut the power to the iPod Transmitter at the same time...

if you've taken the 12v feed from the loom for the radio then it will always have 12v. when you turned the radio off before it still had a 12v live feed from the battery which is why it remembers your stations etc.

Ahh right, I get it.

So basicly, It should be alright as the HeadUnit is also recieving 12V even when it is switched off and the faceplate is taken away.

If i was to leave the headlights on then that would be a different story...or a different power hungry source.

no, you need to make the feed switched either from the igniton or a seperate switch.

the headunit doesnt use the whole 12v though. hence why you battery doesnt go flat lol

What about if I just unplug the power cable from the Transmitter when im leaving the car?

I would try mounting a switch next to the cd player or on the dash somewhere, What type of switch would i need? and is it an easy job?

If i am correct, the switch will cut the power to the transmitter until you switch it back on.

This is what my current set up looks like at the moment with the Transmitter in place.

Is this what I should do to cut the power to the Transmitter so as to save the battery from running flat when not in use?

you got it (y)

thats how i run my screens. only earthed as well :)

Would I have to get a 3 pole Rocker Switch, 2 of the poles for the wire and 1 for the earth? or is the earth not needed in this case?

Ohh, can you get them rocker switches in Halfords?

depend whether the transmitter has an earth cable?

get switches from www.rswww.com

the transmitter only has a red power cable, so im assuming it wont need earthed :D

So if I set up the transmitter, then it should work properly and I wont have a flat battery?

Cheers for your help man, I owe you won.

If you lived near Greenock I would buy you a pint for your patience ;)
