So my gear box went and decided it wanted to break last night. Gear box started screaming and then noticed it was leaking oil everywhere, which means the screaming was the oiless gears rubbing together, looks like it is time for a 3rd gear box -_- anyone else had problems?

What spec is your car? If it's a 1.9 sporting then blame GM for their ****e M32 :D
 
Its not the 1.9, I have a 1.2 active, first gear box had the syncro brake inside and then this one has sprung an oil leak and has wrecked the gears inside. Thinking when I get it fixed I am just going to sell it and buy a gold mk5

A gold one, that'll cost a lot :p . I can understand your frustration, you do loose faith in a brand when your car keeps going wrong but don't be taken in by the vw marketing material, they aren't anything special when it comes to reliability.
 
Nope mine has been sweet as a nut, near 50k miles. Will be getting the oil and filter changed on it though at the upcoming service.

*touches every single bit of wood within a 5k radius*
 
What do you mean? Everything on my Car is standard, and I know that I shouldn't lose faith but with a catch frase "Fix It Again Tomorrow" I can't help but think it is time for change. Bought a refurbed Gear box today, had to drive from Bristol to Staffordshire and now have found out that I have to fork out for a new clutch because it burnt out and is covered in oil. -_- I have had nothing but problems with this Punto, Steering rack snapped when I was driving 8 months ago causing the car to go nose first in to the floor, I think I am now officially the only person to do an Endo in a car. And now I am on my second gear box in 3 months not to mention the air bag wiring for the steering wheel snapping when the rack went with cost too much to repace. I have now spent almost £1000 on my car in the last year on repairs. Time for a change i think.
 
This is a 1.2/8v65HP standard spec right?
What wheel/tyre combo are you running on?

Just considering the options.
If you read thro your comments it seems the problems are exclusive to your car.

2nd gearbox in 3 months.
Where was the last one from ?
I assume breakers yard ??
 
I am the 4th owner of the car and I have had to replace all of them, I don't know if the first owner abused it however when I bought it the syncro was making a weird noise from the gear box already so I knew that one had to be replaced, the 2nd one was "reconditioned" however when it was delivered you could clearly see that it had just been jet washed and this 3rd was is from a breakers yard. I dont abuse my car at all, there would be no point in me ragging it as it is only a 1.2 so i wouldnt achieve much
