Knock Sensors? You're talking to a noob here 8|

Guess what I meant is that you wouldn't get any performance increase by using super fuels (unless you remap)

Some notice an increase in MPG, but like you say littl if no power, but it'll normally run smoother at idle and be a smother ride depending upon just how bad the standards fuel you use is (ie Tesco etc).

£50 will give you around 8 gallons, maybe a cup full more.
(£1.35 per ltr x 4.5454 = £6.13 per gallon)
£50.00 / £6.13 = 8.15 gallons
If the car driven sensibly attains 40mpg, your £50 should give you approximately 326 miles, or about 285 miles if you only get 35mpg.

8.15 * 40mpg = 326
8.15 * 35mpg = 285

A month is an average of 4.33 weeks.
@40mpg 326/4.33 = 75 miles per week.
@35mpg 285/4.33 = 65 miles per week.

Drive like a granny, get 45mpg and you may get 366 miles from your £50.00, or 84 miles per week.

too much time on my hands :)

I'm a student so don't have much money to spend on petrol but even when I thrash mine about I get 36mpg, I usually top up £20 a week which I use to do about 2 miles to and from college and same for work everyday and one 17 mile trip to Durham and another 17 mile trip back again once a week. This and a few trips to the shops and such leaves me in desperate need for petrol by the end of the week.

You don't have to drive like a granny to get good mpg!
Drive hard and try and reduce the amount of times yo use the brakes... You'll get good mpg this way! Of course this is easier said than done as it requires very long range vision and good planning!

And easy example I see everyday is people zooming past me towards a red light when I just roll the car to it. When the car is rolling in gear, it's using zero petrol as the ECU cuts out the petrol when the wheels are driving the engine.... This driver then has to brake to a stop and then get the car ,moving from a standstill on green (where it uses the most petrol). I can then just use very little throttle (say in 2nd or 3rd) to get back to 30 as quickly as possible, change to 4th and use about 5% throttle or less to maintain speed (and end up going past the guy thrashing his car to the lights anyway)

The gold standard to this is the police response units, who can drive through traffic from one side of the city to another without using their brakes at all! Of course they have the added advantage of lights and sirens but still impressive at the speeds they go at!

Oh, and I average 41mpg driving this way. Reckon I can get up to 44 / 45 if I get better at this!

I'm same as MontyParks, people fly by me to then slam brakes on.
Best way to do it is look at the road as far in advance if possible look for lights, traffic etc and just try to drive ready for things instead of dealing with a red light when you get there.
