Right, basically I want to remove the steering wheel controls for the Sound System.

Im wanting to spray the button surrounds the same silver that the dashboard on my GP is to match them up. cheaper than buying silver surrounds.

how do I get them out?

Presuming it means removing the airbag..

NO removing of the airbag is necessary :D all you need to do is get a flat head screwdriver with a cloth and gently prise them out as they are just pushed in.

when you have done this you will see that the buttons are in a plastic block with the facia plate on the top this is the part you want to spray/colour-code. now just a matter of unclipping it from the black box with all the buttons inclosed (hard to explain)

photo below is what it will look like without the facia plate you are going to paint

when painted just clip back on and push back into recess on steering wheel

I understand that I have not explained this that well but its not hard to do once you get the buttons out from the steering wheel you will know what to do common sence more than anything:rolleyes:

also added some before and after shots of when I did mine :)

EXCELLENT.

will also do the "fog lamp button" surround. not so keen on the window control plate though

yeh "fog lamp button" surround is well worth doing im still on the fence about the "window control plate" went on a bit of a mission with the paint haha.
I did all the cd/radio and heater center console also now that was a pain in the ass:cry:

"fog lamp button" surround just pops out with a screwdriver also and you can push the buttons out of the facia plate from behind with your fingers once you have taken it off. very easy and cheap-ish mods and make a world of difference.

Hi GotGrande, silver paintings looks fantastic. This is something that i'm planning to do, hope to get the same results :). By the way what was the paint you used also did you use any polish to protect the paint. thank you.

Hey man thanks for the good comments.
The paint I used was a genuine VW colour and came as a set with base colour and clear I got mine on Ebay but here is a link just to show what I used. :)

If you type in the colour code found in the link you may find it cheaper somewhere else but this was just the first link I found.

Hope this helps.

P.S: @vagosofron White looks very tasteful:yum:
