Hi all,

I have an 06 GPS 1.9 M-Jet and recently started to notice my gearbox whining in 5th & 6th but only below 50mph and when I lift off. No whining when accelerating, no play in the gear stick, no crunching or any other symptoms.

What might the problem be?

Yep gear box bearings are gone.

Ive had mine done. Their is an 08 plate astra 1.3 cdti 6 speed at where i work with horendous whine in first and second, with gear stick moving all over the shop in 1st, and terrible clutch slip when accelerating in 3rd. It hasnt even done 50 000 miles yet

try changing the oil and adding molyslip additive, iv used the molyslip on alot of cars and its fantastic, i had a punto which had a noisey gearbox, had been like it for years, squirted molyslip in and never done it again (takes few weeks to work) and that was with in the old gearbox oil, but its best to replace it.

whats molyslip? is it an additive for the gbox oil or one of them mystery cures that only a few people know about?
