Hi folks
My GP is suffering from the similar ailment to a few others I've read about.. The heater vent trim under the windscreen has unclipped on the drivers side & is driving me nuts! All I've read on the forum is that repair is a dealer job but my car is no longer under warranty.. Has anyone had success with anything else? like glue? I guess it needs to be pretty strong glue for ABS plastic & be heat resistant..
Appreciate your thoughts

Yes you can try glueing it dow hope you have better luck thank me ive had a go to fix it back down on several occasions, but still likes to rear it head every now and then but as you say a strong enough glue should do the trick:)

I called the manufacturers of Loctite and they were good enough to spend time on the phone & help me find the right glue... The problem is that most dashboards are now made of Polypropelene which is cheaper & stronger then its predecessors made of ABS. PP is notoriously difficult to bond after the part is made vs ABS. Either way...

The glue needs to be flexible & heat resistant. It also needs to be strong enough to work on the 2/3 mm edge of the trim... Two options are available..

1-Teroson/Terostat MS 939. IS a flexible heat resistant adhesive/sealant. A similar product for the consumer market is the Terostat 9120.

2- Use an "all plastics" superglue kit which includes the glue & primer. Try & buy the gel glue. If you can't, then buy the Gel glue seperately. You don't want liquid super glue going everywhere. Use the primer & gel to glue parts together.

I've just ordered Terostat MS 939 in black for £17 & will update if & when I have success..

SUCCESS!!!
At the second time of asking success. First time I was worried about potential mess so was a bit conservative with the glue, it lasted seconds. Over the weekend I had another try and used a lot of glue especially where the main clips had snapped off.. 100 mile round trip with heater blasting on it and the vent hasn't shifted... I'll keep a close eye over the next few days but I'm optimistic....
