The car is currently at the dealer because of this noise. I made this video before it went to the dealer because the noise would sometimes happen and sometimes not.

During the video there was a strong smell of burning rubber.
I am revving the car in the video however I don't rev it often incase I cause further damage

Now that the car is at the garage the car runs perfectly fine, it starts first time and sounds normal.

However this recurring issue worries me and I am unwilling to drive the car when it is in such a state. The garage have kept the car and have started it every morning for 3 days and still working fine so they cannot begin to start looking for the fault.

I would appreciate any input

Cambelt rubbing on the inside of the cambelt cover?

Have you demonstrated the noise to them?

Could be a partially seized alternator due to water ingress (see the thread at the top of the GP section), although it's rare for it to affect the 1.2

I haven't because the problem cleared when I went to the dealer (frustratingly)

Seized alternator is a good shout, sounds like a problem that could be on and off

Oh noise how I havent missed you :)

Ceased alternator :) though we first went after the cambelt tensioner as on inspection it had had its fill of life.
