Hi guys and girls. This is my first thread here. Brought my GPS 1.9 MJet in new orleans blue back in december, just before christmas, and I love it :p . However, something that is concerning me is that I aren't sure if it has already been remapped. I was planning on getting it done as people on here seem to talk about turbo lag and the such like. however, my motor doesn't have that much lag if any... I can here the turbo start to whistle at about 1600rpm, is this normal for a standard map? or is this a giveaway of alterations? the only diesel I've driven was my driving instructors a couple of years back and coming from a 1.6 astra SXi the Mjet is an absolute pocket rocket in comparison.

please ask questions about my car if it would help anyone to give me an incling as to whether it is likely to be mapped already.

Regards Adam

Race a new MINI Cooper (like I did) - if you win, it's remapped :D

But on a more serious note, I think the only way to tell for certain will be to get it on some rollers. Or you can let someone who has driven standard/remapped versions have a go :p

Could time a 0-60 run, standard could be just under 9secs, remapped would be alot lower! Depends on the remap though! Or find a garage with a mjet130 and askfor a test drive and compare it to yours!

thanks guys will go ask for a test drive me thinks. oh also i've seen a few posts on the steering pulling to the left, when i first test drove the car it said "check power steering" when i brought it they told me they had had a look and sorted the "code error" out, i.e they just wiped it :/ however it still pulls to the left, i need check tyre pressures but should i go back and ask for it to be checked under the 3 month warranty? the garage is 60miles away though :/

its the 1.3 mjet that people say has turbo lag, and thats mainly the 90bhp one not the 75.

1.9's ive driven all pull strongly from 1600rpm :)

remapped ones usually run out of go at about 3500rpm aswell, lot smaller power band in the revs, but obviously a lot more power

I see I see, I'm pretty sure mine pulls up to about 4000 then obviously the power tails of even though it still climbs through the revs, I haven't had a proper chance to put it through it's paces but it off the line it's an absolute animal. also had a "race" with an orange gps, from the lights down the slip road and onto a dual carriageway, by the time I hit 70 his was about 7 car lengths behind mwuhaha, however, I don't know what engine he had :/
any guidance on the power steering thing? still haven't checked tyre pressure, and can't afford tracking this week
cheers
adam

Mine pulls well from about 17/1800 RPM and up to about 38/3900 RPM.

While you're rolling in the dry from low revs in second gear with the ASR switched ON floor it, if it spins all the way through the gear it is probably mapped from what I remember. Standard map will spin up a bit and then grip.

Mine just gently creeps away below 2,200 RPM then shoots off like a scalded cat! Its in tomorrow for EGR / MAF check & a Service...

Not entirely :p
haha whats that supposed to mean :p

I know over the past few days the ASR / Traction control light filickers all the way up to 3500ish in second:slayer:... however it has been cold and mildly wet. when you say turn it on, do you mean turn it off? so that the light comes on, on the ASR button? and the dash displays ASR Disconnected? I tried this at the lights today and put about a 2500RPM dump on the clutch and the car stayed stil spinning it's wheels so i backed of the revs, it gripped shot off, wheel spun on the upchange through some of second and torque steered through some of third :p It's safe to say I wont be turning that off again hahahaha:idea:

No, sorry I meant leave it switched on so that the ASR is connected.

A standard M-Jet has more than enough torque to spin up with the ASR disconnected but it doesn't tend to distrupt the system when switched on where as the remapped ones tend to spin up if provoked no matter what.

ah right ok well as I say I havn't had chance to do it on the bone dry, but on the dryish-moistish-cold road the other day I gunned it out of the estate ASR flashing all through first and all through the most part of second. one thing I dislike about the car is how quickly you need to change gear through first and second... I know it's not a bad thing as it just proves how powerful the engine is but I'm sure yano what I'm gettin at haha.:yum:

I understand the need for the 6 speed gearbox it's just taken me a while to get used to it as my astra wasn't anywhere near as powefull as the MJ beast. Can't afford a rolling road at the mo, hence my asking for help deciding if it was already mapped. if it is it's a bonus , if not it'll get done towards the end of the year :)

Nah, not necessarily - depends on tyres, mine had Avon ZZ3's all round and I could barely provoke them into any kind of spin whatever the conditions. Never even chirruped under hard acceleration in the dry. (thoroughly recommended given their cheap price btw!)

On a side note to the original topic - I traded mine in at Prestige Cars of Sunningdale a few months back so if anyone bought a surprisingly quick red GP from there you now know why... ;)
