Hi guys, my first post on this forum so bear with me if this question has allready been asked before:) I'm waiting for my '07 GPS to be delivered next Monday and since it is rather cold allready, I need to buy winter tyres. I'm looking to buy 17" tyres and put them on the stock rims. The size of the stock summer tyres is 205/45/R17. Does anyone know if I can fit 225/45/R17 on the rim? Thanks!
AAAARRGGG can't wait until next monday :slayer:

you can fit 215/40/17 the profile has to be reduced as it is a % of the width of tyre.as 225 on stock gp 17s that will be too big

Well yeah it is quite necessary, right now we have about 20cm of snow and roughly about -2 degrees :)) Thanks, I will look into the 215's...

Snowplough blade reuired and tank-tracks?

20cm of snow here in the UK would bring the country to a standstill, and not many would even consider winter tyres, we are so lucky (unlucky?) with the climate here.

no tank tracks, but snow chains are required sometimes :) I would like all year rounds but I don't think it would work well here as driving in the mountains can be troublesome with those...

 20cm of snow, britain wouldn't have a clue what to do if we had that, we had about 2mm the other day in shropshire and 5 schools were cancelled, 2 serious road accidents and buisnesses left without powerlines.

Hi Crazymofo

I had my winter tyres fitted here in the UK at the weekend. I tried to get hold of the Vredestein Wintrax Xtreme, but they were out of stock (with no hope of getting them for at least 6 weeks) so my tyre dealer got me Pirelli W240 Snowsports -- 205/45 R17 88V -- they look quite good and the handling is great. A little more tyre noise than the usual Bridgestones, but not that intrusive at all.

Even without snow, I alway fit winter tyres -- the grip on wet or icy roads in colder temperatures makes twisty country roads a joy! And when there is a touch of snow (as that's we seem to get here in the UK) they are great. I live on an unmade road in a small village in Yorkshire and I last winter, on at least 3 occasions, I was the only car able to get out of our village -- the sticky rubber and extra grip worked like magic :D

i got stuck the other year in Low Dalby fortunately a FC ranger kindly gave me a tow up the hill now carry a set of snow chains just in case.... been up some roads near by in summer (Levisham if you know it then again yorkshire is a big place) and it was bad enought in the wet (in my KA when i had that)
