Technical Creaking?

Technical Creaking?

its intermittent, it happens sometimes over bumps, or going into left hand corners, more so if you go around the corner quickly

any ideas?

I've noticed recently mine also creaks when turning hard left (especially at low speed) when I have the music off. At first I thought I was imagining things or something was rattling in the door compartment, but it's definitely creaking from the right front.

Well theyve had my car for 3 days now, just had a call to say it will be ready by about 5 tonight, I might finally find out what was wrong with it! :D

Any luck with it?

Finally got my car back, and its turned out to be the door locking mechanism, they cured it by removing my 3 door style lock and replacing it with a 5 door lock

After all my complaining they gave me a courtesy car that actually had a fair amount of fuel in, my car came back valeted insie and out and had a full tank of petrol (I gave it to them on the red).. and they even sorted my wonky glove box out. (y)

<sighs with relief>

I know you said its the door locks, but any idea how it was causing it to creak (so I can tell the dealer here, whom I doubt have a clue)?

I honestly dont know how it made it creak exactly, I assume it was just loose, but Im no expert, its definately worked though, the dealership had tried all kinds, taken the panels off, seats etc and it wasnt until they spoke to Fiat they got told to change the locks, so I assume if your dealer gets in touch with Fiat they could advise them better

it does seem a strange fix because my creaking definately sounded like it was comming from the back

So no more creaking now?

That's because I wished you luck :D

Good luck (you'll need it)

Cheers for the info mate - it doesn't sound like a major fault so I'm going to leave mine creaking for now until my first service (4 months from now). The hard part is to get them to diagnose/believe me - they seem to be deaf, blind, and arrogant all combined together

no probs (y)

yeah, it didnt seem like a major problem, although the noise was annoying, the actual lock itself was working perfectly, hope you get it sorted out eventually

I notice its worse when turning hard left downhill.. but anyway I'm not going to take another day off work just because of a creak - need to build up more faults first

Update: I gave the dealer a detailed description of the creaking and possible solutions/areas to check. Not at all interested, they claimed "something" needs lubrication, and needs advice from Fiat, and I thought "yeah man whatever :tosser:".

Incidentally there was an outstanding bulletin for the lower steering column, and they initially thought this was causing the creaking. Turned out it wasn't applicable.

I just wanted my car back, so will leave it for first service as originally planned.

Mine had the same problem. They said the loose bolts let the body or door move a little, which made the noise . They tightend the bolts and it fixed it.:)

Well I had it spelled out for them, and they're like "We don't know what's wrong with it?"

Maybe I should learn Monkey-ish give they're all a bunch of monkeys.

Or perhaps I should practise what I preach and try another dealer..

hey, we have had a annoyin time trying to solve this one ,been through everthing but with technical and one post saying on here about the locks, i gave it a try, i changed the locks but still the creaking was there, but when i thickened the latch bar on the body with tape, wooola the creaking had gone. so if anyone has this problem tell and it still hasn't been solved be sure to mention this as it will help them.

This seems to have gotten better over the last couple of days. When doing a normal left turn at any speed there is almost no creaking at all. However if its a left turn going downhill there's still a bit of creaking.

Self healing?

I've been reading this, and to be honest, it's so often a simple matter of common sense - like a loose screw or securing pin on some part of suspension or underbody. First things first, loan a lift in some garage & get a bit dirty checking out the car from underneath. Get yourself a service manual and go over all the joints in the suspenson checking them out - 90% chance that you'll find something loose. How do I know? When I had a bravo I had my back stabilisers changed and it started creaking like mad - 5 times to the garage, they could not find anything wrong with it. Swore it was all ok - but the truth is they did not bother to even look at it, or they would see the looslely attach subframe (which they forgot to tightn down proprely). I gave it a look over, tightened what was needed and drove off no creaking. What is most important, a piece of my suspension could fall off if it were for those monkeys there.

Are they just ignorant, or plain stupid, I do not know; however I do know that from that point on, whenever someone is working on my car, I am right beside them, carefully watching the work being done. Because I have had faith in their ability (various garages) more then one time, and every time, they overlooked the obvious things. No more, if they do not allow me as the owner to look at their work, they won't be seeing me in that garage. I'm being highly cautios, and maybe even slightly paranoid when it comes to repairs, but it is my a** on the line if something fails while driving, and I am not stepping back from that point of wiev. Which hasn't failed me since, every repair now is one I can count on, and that counts!:D
