Fitting a vacuum Boost Gauge to a M-Jet & T-Jet

Okay firstly we want to get all the thing we will need to fit a boost Gauge on our Mjet & Tjet (see below).

things you will need!
Boost Gauge
Silcone Vacuum hose ( I used 3mm ID)
Gauge holder (Pod)
Zip Ties
something to tap into the Inlet pipe eg; Brake bleed nipple
'Anti buzz restricters' aka Vacuum hose connectors.

lets move on.....

okay so we have all the items we need to complete our Boost Gauge installation

step one;

Remove engine cover

step two;

Locate the Air inlet pipe

step 4
Depending what your using to tap into your inlet pipe will depend on what size hole you need to drill. I drilled into the 'bigger' raised section of the inlet pipe to give abit more 'bite' on securing the vacuum inlet.

step 5
If you have a thread tap to hand, go ahead a tap a thread into the hole and inset your 'nipple' (if you don't have a thread tap I'm sure abit of epoxy resin mixxed up would be okay.. CHECK FOR LEAKS THOUGH!)

step 6

next you want to feed your vacuum hose through the bulkhead, I used the same passing as the 'bonnet release cable' this is under the cover where your windscreen mechs sit.

it helps to have two people here, one to feed the hose and one lying on their back in the footwell with there hand up the back of the dash ready to grab the cable and pull it through for you, once this is done go ahead and route your vacuum hose where you want the gauge to be. MAKE SURE YOUR HOSE DOES NOT HAVE ANY KINKS OR ROUTED SOMEWHERE IT WILL SNAG ON SOMETHING SHARP!

step 7
decide where you want to mount your gauge,
I personally mounted the gauge on the A pillar with self tapping screws.

step 8

once you've fed the cable through get your power and earth cables from the box of your gauge..

Red = live
black = negative

go ahead a solder these to your cigarette lighter/dash live and earth.

step 9
now back to the engine bay.

go ahead and attach your vacuum to your 'vacuum inlet tap'

I used a small zip tie to secure the hose on.

step 10

attach the other end of the hose to your gauge, turn your car on and test for any escaping air from the tap.

now if your installing this on a diesel you may find you have allot of 'vibration/buzz' on your gauge. not to worrie! just cut your vacuum hose approx 8-10 inches from the inlet pipe and install one of your hose 'anti buzz connectors' (vacuum hose connector)
I needed to install two to stop the vibration on my gauge. so I placed another 6-8inchs down the vacuum hose from the Gauge

if all is okay, go ahead and tighten everything up ( like your boost gauge mount)

Sit back and enjoy

Okay so I listed this as difficulty level 2. thats my personal review on how 'hard' this instalation was. If your abit iffy about taking a drill to your car then I'd say just take your time

T-JET ENGINES

For T-jet Engines all you need to do is T-piece off your boost vacuum, this is at the top right of your engine under the engine cover, the wiring and feed of Vacuum is all the same as above

@Sweex I imagine so, I've never really had a good look around a Tjet's engine.. but I can't imagine it would be much different! with you being able to have a pressure release valve on a tjet I imagine you can just connect it to the lines that are already in place..without having to drill

How did you route the vacuum hose from the passenger side to where you've positioned the gauge on the driver's side? Behind the dash?
