Yes I should have known better than to go the Kwik fit but its the only place in town open on sundays.

Took my car and a mates in for the front wheels balancing on both of them and went for some breakfast while they were meant to be fixing...

Came back on hour or so later and theyd managed to strip the threads on one of my wheel nuts and not put the rest of the bolts back properly damaging my wheel. Unfortunately I didnt notice this until id got home as theyd sent both of us on our way without charging us to get rid as quick as posible.

We think they hadnt even touched his as it still wobbles on the motorway.

Thing is I dont think I can do anythign about it either as I dont have a reciept or anything to prove it had been there. grrrr.

Fortunately Im better with spanners than them and fixed their cock up. Theres no wonder the place is always empty .

Third that:

Avoid the Kwik Fit in Portobello Road, Edinburgh!

They are so poor at Wheel balancing that they forget to put the weights on! I comlained - but after the third rebalancing I went elsewhere.

And don't ask about exhausts - they can't fit them properly. I thought y10 exhausts lasted 6 months until I went somewhere else. On the bright side, they never complained when I went for repairs/replacement under the warranty.

Bloke at work took his in for a zorst, while it was on the ramps they did the usual sucking in of air through the teeth and told him his rear shox were goosed and leaking.

Fine, says he - can you change them now for me?

Yes says spanner monkey and does so.

Blokey goes to pay, expresses puzzlement at the fact that they have charged him for the two shox.
Monkey behind counter doesn't understand, they've provided a service and fitted parts for which he has to pay.
Blokey then explains slowly and carefully with the aid of a receipt that it's the same job they did three months previous so the parts must still be under warranty.

Monkey has to admit defeat.

Oh did I giggle.

i am neva goin to a kwik fit again...

took my red cinq in a while ago when i was havin problems with the brakes, they were really soft an just generally s**t.

the spanner monkey there said that the front pads were worn, and the cylinders on the drums were leakin causin a loss of pressure.

they changed them, an charged me oer £70 for all the work.

2 days later the brakes were still as bad, if not worse.

took it into a mate who said the master cylinder was shot, he changed it, bang, brakes as good as new.

needless to say i called kwik fit an gave them a verbal seeing to! bastids!

A while back I changed the front discs and pads on the Uno. 5 weeks later I took it to Kwik Fit for new front tyres only to be told that I my front brake pads where dangerously worn. Needless to say I shouted a bit, refused to let them put tyres on the car and took my business elsewhere.

These places get away with ripping people off at every opportunity. I didn't believe they did that until my own experience.

Think it was a Kwik Fit that actually tried to stop my bro taking his wife's car away from one of their depots. They claimed the front brakes were 'dangerously worn', when in fact there was about 1/4" of pad left and a very slight lip on the discs. Told him they thought it would be unsafe to drive.

Unfortunately he is well versed in law, and explained that technically it would be illegal for them to refuse to return the car.

National Tyres is a bit suss for me, ages ago went for a QXR oil change and filter on their offer in a national paper. The oil they put in was straw coloured, and not green like QXR...

i kno wat u mean... i think u dont realise untill u have had 1 slightly suss thing happen to u, well that was how it was for me!

whenever i have a problem, i take the car into FIAT to c wat they say. then to the garage that does all my fixing / bodywork to get the same thing at about half the cost, especially if i pay in cash! ;)

its weird, a few years ago my wifes exhaust went while driving in north hampshire. We passed a quick fit and they put it up on ramps and said the middle box was shot. I had no cash and at the time they wouldnt accept my solo card I had. So, they drove us into town to a cashpoint while replacing the exhaust and back again. Never ripped us off, or said anything else was amiss, strange!

good to c that they all arent the same.

but the thing is, cause of wat happened at 1 quick fit, with 1 car, i would neva take any other car to any other quick fit... or recomend them to anyone!

bad reputation spreads a lot quicker than good!

Thats how I feel about them and i'd hope theyre not all the same, Ive never seen a busy quick fit tho and that possibly speaks volumes....

If anybody is near me i can recommend Bush garages as an alternative tho, Ive found them to be very competent :)

(n) Kwikfit, bear cross roundabout, Bournemouth..
I went there with my brand new set of alloys..Totally unmarked..Untill they had finished with them...
For starters they drove a Brand new car onto the ramps and opened the door onto what they call a protection strip...a piece of plastic thats supposed to not scratch your car...well it did..
Next up...they got all the wheels off...changed the tyres...all ready to go on and the tosser says " sorry they're not going to fit your car "....
I was well p****d off...turns out all he needed to do was take out the little spikes in the brake discs...
So they did that... got 3 nuts in each wheel and when it came to the locker they said it wont fit... and i made them at least put my old nuts in so as not to be driving on 3 nuts per wheel...
I got the car home and had a look at it....
every nut they put in, they managed to scratch the wheel around the nut..
the locking nuts i put on myself and it was as straight forward as takin a p..
and one wheel has a rather large chunk taken out of the rim..
lol...the next day i got a call from customer services asking me what my experience at the centre was like.. perfect timing..
Im now waiting for a call from there management.
They owe me a brand new set of alloys.
I took the car to my local tuning shop and the said all they needed to do was use a sleeve around the nut to protect the wheel..they failed to do this..which is now gonna cost them...and when i get my new wheels they are gonna have to pay me to take my car somewhere else to get them fitted..

Cuz im NEVER goin to Kwikfit again.

went to kwik fit on prince of wales road in norwich many years ago, witha rover, wanted to rear shocks they said fine be couple of hours. so i went away came back was still on ramp thing, went away came back. anyway 5 hours later it was done i paid and left.

and well to cut a long story short i found out 2 months later that they had put a bloody car jack through the floor of my car and dint tell me. grrrrrr

You should know never to go near a tyre fitting house, unless you need tyres, get the main dealers to do the work, places like quick fit work on a bonus scheme, the more work the more money, so they rush jobs, OR they add parts to a job which arent needed etc you go for a wheel balance, they usually always tell you, your rear dampers are worn, or you need new pads and discs, or even ure exhaust is blowing (usually screwdriver jobbie through the base)

any who you pay more than u want, or they say theyve dont ure shocks u look closely and theyve only been cleaned, NEVER GO NEAR A QUICK FIT go to rapid fit instead :D

Eh? Main dealers charge like wounded bulls, which is a form of ripping off the consumer. And they all fought tooth and nail to preserve their monoploy on warranty care.

Go with word of mouth, probably the best deal will be a small local garage. And thanks to law changes, getting the local mechanic to service your car no longer invalidates the warranty.

Kwik fit, Bridlington (y)

Do not know about any others, but have found Kwik Fit in Bridlington to be great. Go in for the work I want done and I sit and watch in the waiting room.

I guess on a general note, if customers go away and come back later it give the mechanics an opportunity to lie and say more work needs doing.

The good thing about Brid Kwik Fit (others may be same) is the waiting room sorround is all glass so you can watch the work being done, and this is exactly what I do!

Had a Mondeo a while back, rear silencer went. Took it in to them as they gave the best quote.
Exhaust was a Ford item, they claimed they couldn't fit their replacement one and I'd have to buy a full system - naturally AFTER they had hacksawed the old back boxes off. Asked why they couldn't simply sleeve it if it didn't match up, bloke came out with all sorts of excuses which made no sense.
Told him I wouldn't pay for a full system and they should have known it wouldn't go on, and that he should put the original box back on and I'd go elsewhere. Then he claims that sleeving is bad practice, they don't like to do it (wonder why...) and that it'd fall off / wouldn't last. Finally he says they don't want to sleeve it as they'd have to cut a length off a new section of plain straight pipe in the warehouse to do so.
Told the bloke that I wasn't at all interested in what stock he had to cut up and to do the job or return the car intact.

Fitter then sleeves new pipe to old, which was still sound when the car was flogged years later.

I have little faith in them.
