Hey Guys

I am having a knocking noise on my 2009 fiat grade punto car but I recently changed top mount, strut and coil spring and I noticed the noise start. But was wondering if you can do a process of elkmination and drive without drop links to try rule that of the list or is it a bad idea? I did change them a few years back but they were just a cheap brand, but that being said they only have about 2k miles on them (low mileage I do) Any ideas appreciated .

I am sure there are lots of views but I’ve owned my Grande for nearly 5 years, I now see drop links as consumables I buy pairs at just over 10 quid on eBay. I would not drive without but get cheap ones and just replace and then see if it’s still there. After a while the drop link knock/rattle is a definite, there it is again noise that just becomes part of the routine service, I’ve had sets die in 6 months and some last lots longer, all OEM or rubbish quality depending on your view of cheap parts. Without drop links you would no doubt gain a rattle you wouldn’t want.

Without them attached you have no anti-roll bars in operation. When cornering, even at slow speeds the car will lean significantly, and at higher speeds may lose control a lot sooner. For elimination, you can disconnect them, but only a short, slow test drive. Take care! Elimination should be for the noise, not the driver.
