Hi Guys,

Does the exhaust manifold/cat have to come off to replace the sump, thinking about clearance for the pick up pipe.

I don't think it "Has" to, i think from memory you can just undo the manifold from the engine and it all drops enough for clearance/you can pull it down/manhandle it out the road for clearance on the sump, but for 10 minutes extra work and the ease it will give you for access, it's simpler to just remove.

Thanks for that Mark...I've just been informed by my nephew that the emissions were high when it was presented for MOT last week. So it looks like the cat will have to be replaced anyway. Unless you can think of another possible reason that the emissions are high?

perhaps the Lambda? that'd be my first port of call :) i'd pop the spark plugs out for a look for signs of overfuelling etc, can be a major help to tracing issues.

one i always bang on about for the FIRE engines is the coolant temp sensor (blue plug on the back of the inlet manifold, right side), seems to cause all sorts of random issues from my experience, made mine overfuel like nobody would believe when it started to go.

lambda, or coolant temp sensor. both can make it run rich. it could.... also be burning oil. that will bump hydrocarbons up. depends what emmisions it failed. lambda reading or hydro

Resolved...Changed the Sump & Catalyst, flew through MOT. Maybe get some time to work on the Lancia now.

Thanks for your input guys...invaluable.

John.
