Soo, i've wanted to do this for a wee while, and finally it came to fruition today!! Just thought i would post how we went about doing it, and the end results.

So, front grille was a bit of a pest, pull it off all round, with dodgy plastic clips. The parking sensor wires prevented it from completely coming away from the car, and were too fiddly to disconnect, so i made do.

SO i then discovered that the bolts in the back of the LEDs weren't long enough to reach through the grille, to bolt on. I took them out of the plastic holders, and discovered it was a very snug fit in the grille, so with a little super glue, i slotted the two top ones in, with super glue added, and wa-la, sorted.

Unfortunately, that's where the luck ended. The bottom two wouldn't fit snug in the grille, as the grille is bigger at the bottom. This presented a problem, as i had no longer bolts. I ended up cutting two blocks of wood, and screwed the brackets on through the grille to the wood behind. This is just going to be temporary, until i can get to JRD / B&Q for longer bolts.

So, it was then my time to step back, and lewisp 's turn to step up. He tried scotch locks to wire the positive to the side lights, but the scotch locks i bought were crap, so he resorted to terminal blocks to connect to the side lights. He decided to do the connection from inside the headlight unit, as there was much more access to the wires inside, and it was much easier to see which wire we needed, compared to trying to connect at the harness plug. He drilled a small hole through the wee access cover for the lead to go through, and left some lose to give some play with the units being removed etc.

He then wired the negative / earth to an earth point for each side.

I didn't want them as DRLs or anything like that, just to be on when the side lights are on, And this is the results:

AND even better at night :D

Fairly simple, if you know how. But i am well chuffed with the results :D

With thanks to lewisp

haha totally agreed. :)

Im hoping the wood will be gone by the end of the this weekend. Im looking for longer bolts to fit them to a (black) plastic bracket i have, and the wood will be gone :)

Good news. Once i was done with the elbow greace of scrubbing 'Yellow' clean, i was not overly useful with fixing it, but i DID get on with fixing my bottom LEDs.

When i took the bottom LEDs off, i noticed I had accidentally snapped one of the brackets, when tightening the bolt too tight. Also, with the sharp tug at the grille to remove it, i had accidentally snapped the earth wire too. So Lewis had to undo the wiring for me, so i could pull the light through, fit a new bracket, and then rewire up again, including a new (longer) earth.
I replaced the wood with huge washers, about 1.5inch squared and fitted much longer bolts which reached through the grille easily. I tightened them up, but not as tight as last time, & they are now looking great.

Stuart also fitted much brighter fog light bulbs for me, which was easier to do while the headlight units were out anyway. So all in all, finished project, and looking great :D

So i have been busy again getting one or two jobs done, despite the cold weather.

The first was to relocate the CB radio. I wasn't 100% happy with it on the dash, and a few people had warned me it may be an MOT failure there too, so i have now fixed it directly underneath the glove box. this has the added bonus that all the wires are easy to hide behind, and it's also hopefully going to be easy enough to hard wire in there too.

The other job was to fit the Air horn. This was with thanks to lewisp again, who did all the wiring, while my contribution was just fixing the unit in place. The trumpet is 39cm long, so thankfully there was a suitable gap down the nearside of the engine bay next to the washer bottle which it fitted into spot on.

Well, glad its fitted, its bringing me joy already! was coming out of Tesco's car park, 3 lassies are walking on my side of the road. I sneak up behind them and blast the horn. They jumped a foot high, and landed in the bushes at the side - score :)
