Thought I better start a page for the Spider.

Some of you will already know, the Spider let me down today. On the way to Hopetoun Hse with fellow Spider owner Craig, whilst we were horsing up the motorway my car suddenly got louder! pulled over at Jct 4, pulled the bonnet and discovered that the exhaust downpipes had separated from the manifold flange. ****! Anyway I returned home and got Cherry to make an appearance at the show.

On stripdown it appears that the welding I had done (10 years ago) to the pipe/flange joint had cracked and failed. I had to extent the pipes by 2 inches because I had done away with the fitting that carried the Lambda sensor...see below... also car of the show for me...Ferrari Dino.

Probable cause..is when I was welding it originally I had too skinny a weld and no weld on the outside of the flange...was trying to keep it neat so that the weld bead wouldn't foul the fixing nuts and washers.

Also tonight found a crack on the cast manifold, so will have to weld this also...see photo.

First thing I thought of, which I guess shows how I think and how inappropriate my mindset is in terms of solving automotive issues

Hope you manage to get the welding issues though sorted John despite my lack of constructive input :)

I didn't jinx you at the service station before I left Motherwell haha oops sorry

Just received my latest purchase today...Wideband 02 Lambda Sensor, with gauge. This is a standalone sensor with gauge, which will allow me to monitor the dynamic Air/Fuel Ratio across all speed/load ranges. Don't know when I'll get a chance to install...very busy at the moment!

p.s. pics to follow.
