In March I'm moving to a new job in a building with no mobile reception whatsoever so therefore I'm going to have to upgrade my old and trusty stupid phone to one with the ability for wifi calling. I've no idea about smart phones despite having one for work so I need some advice. I've identified 4 possibilities from the list here and they are the Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G4, Sony Xperia Z5 compact and Microsoft Lumia 640. And yes I am going for the fairly cheap options because it's just a phone and will only be used for calls, texts and possibly as a camera

Does anyone have good/bad experiences of those phones?

I'm assuming that's a recommendation rather than a bad experience

I'm undecided though because the work phone is a Galaxy S3 and it's ok but nothing special. I am going to have to head in to town at some point and actually try the phones out but I'm putting it off for as long as possible (I really hate town lol)

Depends what you want out of it. I have to say that while the app/ multimedia infrastructure is dreadful compared to Apple or Google I really like the Windows phones for just everyday internet/ email and phone stuff and the sat nav Microsoft put on there is way better than the Apple one or even Google maps. Plus the spec to money ratio is usually great - the Lumia 640 is really a class down price wise from all the others there but if you're not using it as a whizz bang games and media machine it's great. I've got a 535 and a 735 so not tried that particular one but the models either side are great.

To be honest all I want is a phone that I can use for calls and texts. I'd stick with my old phone if it weren't for the requirement of wifi calling

However, interesting info about the Windows phones so thanks for that.

Easier to use, not herded into single company apps, better camera, just as fragile as any other phone,

And it's probably going to take me at least another month of deliberating on top of a few weeks in March of suffering no signal to make me do something about this...

I'll wait and see the prices first :D

Update. I did indeed go for the S6 and it seems ok so far but I'm waiting for my number to transfer over so won't really do much with it until that happens. Well, except transfer music over etc.

Number still not transferred over which is a complete pita as there is sod all signal at work. Does anyone know how long these things usually take?

Galaxy S6? surely that's sooooo last week!
Take it you changed network, I swapped my number over to a new nano sim when I changed phones last and it took about 20 minutes to go live.

I know :red: but I needed a new phone sharpish and didn't want to hang around for the S7. Anyway, I much prefer to let others work out the bugs in new tech first and then swoop in when it's all sorted :D

Stuck with the same network which is why it's perplexing me. I wondered if it was because the stupid phone is still capable of receiving texts and calls to my old number (well, when there's a signal that is  ) so I've removed the sim from that and still nada. I'll be paying a visit to the EE shop tomorrow afternoon to get it sorted out once and for all. Although i do like having a valid excuse for not answering the phone and could get used to it

Hmm, is tomorrow not the day the S7 launches? - could be a fun time to go in looking for help with all those early adopters milling about working out their bugs..
3 for me. Seem to be doing a lot right.

Problem solved. PAC code wasn't sent properly so number didn't transfer. it's been done now and they've refunded a week's worth of my bill. Result!
