What type of oil should I use in my Bravo 1.4 (year 1996)

Also I've noticed a clicking sound coming from under the car, it's really quiet and slower when sitting but gets louds as the car gets faster and the clicking gets faster too.

Any ideas?

10W40 semi synthetic.

Check for stones in your hubcaps.

I have been told it's possibly the gear arm bush wearing out?

Although i will check hub caps.

I've been advised to let it start clicking and if I put my hand on the gear stick then i should feel the clicks through there.

So possibly the gear arm or bush?

Any other advise would be great.

Thanks for the oil also. My friend said it could be tappets?
So I should drain the old oil and put some new oil in.
I'm going to give every suggestion a go as it's my first car Only got on the road yesterday. Gotta say I do love driving.

Tappet noise would be loudest in the engine bay.

As I say I will give them all a try, if it's not one it will be the other and it means it's slowly getting a point where most things won't need changing for a while and possibly find any other problems on the way

If you find that the clicking is coming from the engine bay/top of the engine block, it will be the tappets.

The older 1.4s have a known problem with the camshaft oil spray bar getting clogged up and causing the camshaft to fail.

If it is tappet noise, it would be worth your while stripping off the rocker cover, dismantling the camshaft spray bars and cleaning them out with petrol.

Be careful when you remove the rocker cover bolts, you need to use a RIBE socket bit (M7 I think) otherwise you might knacker the bolt heads.

Even if the spray bar is clean, at least you will know that a potential costly repair is not in the offing.

Some people keep a spare spray bar and swap them over at every major service.

A blocked spray bar doesn't affect the tappets, the noise is caused by the camshaft wearing.

Yep cam shaft is right. One of the rockers had broken in two.
One of the garages can't find any second hand parts to put in it so they'll be pricing it up and giving me a ring.

I'm hoping my grandad will be able to get me one And he said he would do all the work this afternoon for next to nothing.
