ok installed the alpine type r and gto amp today wasa nightmare

but now its all u and running i cna hear the words coming from the sub is this normal cos its a dual coil ir do i need to tweak the amp

Smee

You gotta make sure that u put the sub channel low pass filter (LPF) n ur frequency of it is low

re

as above, the sub is trying to play all the frequencies not just the low ones!

hmm i had a play around last night i need to get it looked at

thanks

Smee

re

it will just be the filter, there will probably be a small switch to go between HPF no filter and LPF, you need it on the LPF i think it is, i alway s get them mixed up which way round but sure its LPF to let only low frequecies through.

its a monoblock subwoofer amp it dont have lpf on it

make sure the rca is in the right plugs on the back of ur headunit make sure their in the sub one and not the front or rear speakers..

defo in the sub one cos i can switch it off from the headunit

Smee

re

its obviously a wank amp then, it should have a filter built in or somethign then to filter out so only the bass gets amped to the sub, yours obviously isnt doing this and letting all the noise through!

Smee! Try changing the frequency seeting on the amp. There is a variable dial for the sub, front and rear inputs. Turn this down on the sub one as this is the range of frequencies that are sent to the sub.

its only a sub amp and i have turnt that down wimmy i think its be being a spanner cos now its quite lol

my mate is gonna set it up tomorrow

Smee

Now you're saying its quiet. You sure you aint turn the gain down instead? What model amp is it?

Is the headunit allowing all frequencies to the amp? Turn on the lpf on the headunit?
What head is it? also, depending on headunit there may be 3 rca outs, f r and nonfading/sub. If there is only 1 then in the hu menu youll have to define if its for sub or f or r

alpine 9847R 3 preout on the sub out line it doesnt have a lpf or hpf on the head unit like my sony had

Having a quick look at that amp it has 3 dials at the input end. Bass Boost, Xover Freq and Input Level.
Put Bass and Input on Half way for starters then mess with the xover freq. You should notice the frequencies coming from the sub change when moving this dial. Once you have that sorted then started messing with the gains and boost :)
