I too find myself in a similar position to ChrisR: had my 1.8HLX for about a month and a half now and coming from a 1.1 punto it was obviously a huge step up in terms of performance but also comfort, ride, quietness etc.

I was also a bit shocked how quickly I have got used to (and a bit bored of) the improved performance. It got me thinking (bare with me on this I might just be going crazy).

If I get a quicker car would I soon get bored with that and have to get an even quicker one etc until I have spent loads on performance cars and still not be satisfied??

I understand the thrill of having power under the bonnet and using it but since you can't really use high performance cars on the road without at some point getting into trouble or killing yourself :S . . . what is the point?

Basically after almost blowing my mind lol I was thinking what qualities or attributes would my perfect car have.

What do you guys recon to all this rant an what wud ur perfect car have???

it would have to be an old car, new cars are crap imo, too complicated. A nice simple big engine, no ecu to complicate things. I'd probably go for a dodge charger or something, provided it was manual. I know everone will slag it off, crap performance for the engine size, poor handling etc etc but it has a big lump up front and looks great, what more can you want. I also want a datsun 120Y, they were great with their funky wheel trims, round head lights, leather seats and that dig steering wheel with the single bar across it.

I had a 1.6 Brava, and like you, I was going to get a 1.8 Bravo HLX. I'd even put a deposit down on one; then I went to look at a HGT just out of curiosity really, since I'd never driven one before. I bought it that same day. I still can't believe the difference. The HGT is an awesome car, and I believe i was meant to find..my precious :) If all goes well tomorrow, I should at long last be able to post pics galore of my beloved bravo - when I'll rant and rave even more about why I love it so!

Thats a bloody good question:) I have had plenty of normal cars, and I love my fiat, love to get in it ona cold or wet or rainy day, just flick on the heater, turn the radio and away I go in a nice warm reliable car, no tantrums or worries.

BUT

The most fun I have ever had is in my kit cars, the first one was vw based, just two seats, a frame and the engine. No radie, no windscreen, no roof and no doors, but it was bloody good fun. Astraight four speed gear box and oin sharp handling, a real barrel of laughs on the bends. Totally impracticle for shopping, and if it rained, you either got wet or pulled up next to a bus stop...lol.

My latest kit car is just as much fun, and to be honest, you just have to get back to basics to bring the smile back to your face

I recon the things I would look for in a car are now I think about it the performance of my 1.8 is fine for me otherwise I'm sure I'd end up killing myself :(!

Has to be comfortable to drive in and look great - comfort and style. The Bravo is spot on then, if only I could get the front/front bumper lookin good.

I'd be at one extreme or another. The guy round the corner form me gives me his Lax Flower every month or 2, when he's read it. He lent me a dvd yesterday of some dick called Dan, who called everyone FELLA... anyway, i watched it all, and at the end there was a race between a tuned up, but otherwise standard looking Toyota Corolla, and a £100 Grand Aston Martin. It looked a peach too, but the best part was that the corolla blew the aston martin outta the water.

So, in conclusion, i would have 2 ideal cars. 1 would be all show, and a fair bit of go, like the aston martin for daily use, and the other would be a crazy ass powerfull car like the corolla, to really bait people on a racetrack, and upset those guys that turn up in ferraris and likewise. Of course, if i had that kinda money, i dont think it'd bother me too much! lol

I agree with LightWarrior (sort off) funds allowing I would have an Aston for day to day use, new DB9 me thinks but for a track day car I wouldn't **** about wilth crappy road cars I get one theeeeeeeeeeeeeese........

It's a stealth B6 and has a 650BHP 6.3 litre!!! Chevrolet small block V8. I guy called Bob Light had one and raced it in the Castle Combe GT championship. He beat everyone by a country mile (until one of his competitors got pissed off an decided to bolt turbo charger on his radical). A bargain at £175,000

But until I win the lottery I think an Alfa 156 GTA and a Ducati 999 (or whatever the new model's called) would do me fine.

bigger point

This is probably the most questioned topic of all time.
the answer is even more simple. everytime you climb to a stronger car and get used to it , after a while it gets a bit booring. such is life.

You always have to keep in mind that someone else is always gonna be faster then you. if you can understand that youll enjoy your car for many years.

What is the best sports car? for me a car that provides special engine tunes and sings to you from the cyl when you drive, even if its slow.
if it sounds alive [alfa, fiat, audi quattro, bmw] thats all you need to feel good. and i get that everytime i drive the HGT.. for now... :)

Re: bigger point

The first two things my perfect car would have would be a lifetime parts and labour guarantee free AA cover for life.

Thanks for your thought 147, wouldn't have thought this is probably one of the most talked about topics cos I didn't even realise I was getting sucked in until dad jus casually said to me - why dya want a faster car anyway?

Asking myself that question has opened my eyes to the whole fast car and modified car thing.

The only real reason I wanted a faster car is just so I know I can beat most other cars I come across. I Realised this is no real reason for getting a faster car, and jus my ego getting the better of me!

Tis weird cos having realised that I am not bothered at all when a BMW or a Golf agressivly overtakes me on the motorway - so what, I'm just enjoying the ride!
