Hi folks,
After a battery change on a Ducato 10 SWB 1.9 TD we have a key code problem.
Although following the procedure red key, blue key, blue key, red key the van won't start.
The key code light stays on even with the red key in mar position.
The battery and key code box have been disconnected overnight with no joy (fiat main dealer advice).
We do have the code card.
Are there batteries in the keys which may be causing the problem?
Any other help apreciated before wallet gets raped by fiat!

Regards
Glyn

It would seem that there is a black reset button to the right of the battery.
Glad a fellow Ducato owner popped by before I started smashing fuel pumps to bits and ripping out wires :)

We too have got a similar problem. We have tried to diagnose this problem, been to 2 different fiat dealers and cost £142 to go on diagnostic machine, neither found any problems, one said they suspected code ecu and pump ecu - quoted £380 to replace them !!

The van seems to be starting ok at the moment, but who knows when it may go again.

Our van is a 2.8 idTD 1999, wonder if the reset button you mentioned is on ours too. We know a new battery was fitted by the previous owner, the problem first arose with us in March (loose battery cable fitting) and again last month (unknown why).

Do the fuel pump modification and your immobiliser problems will go, although you will no longer have an immobiliser

thank you Atlantis.it was the right thing you.black square button on the right of the battery.i wish i had this advise when i had the same problem a month 2 months ago(i removed the battery).fiat said it would cost £1500 to replace the satrting kit.my ducato idtd 2.8 didnt move for a month.till some ingenious mechanic friend came and pressed that button.it only cost me £20 luckily
cheers

Hi, we seem to be having the same problem on a 1998 ducato, the battery packed up so we jump started her fine but then she wouldn't start at all. We towed her to the garage and were told that it was the code in the key. We got the key checked and its fine. So after several calls we've been told our only choice is to go to Fiat and probably get robbed blind!! Am heading out now to see if I can find a reset button near the battery.
I'd be interested to learn about the fuel pump modification too incase it is the immobiliser.
Thanks
Katie
