Hi Ladies and Gents (loosely termed ?) I have a Fiat Ducato 2.8 jtd on a 2003 (53) plate and I’m fitting tow bar electrics fo a bike rack.
I’ve been made aware of the use of canbus signals but not sure if my van uses canbus it’s chassis no is ZFA24400002749164 it’s a Hymer motorhome on an Alko chassis extended chassis.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Regards to you all The Laird

An x244 does not have canbus, other than the connection between the ABS system and the ECU.

Canbus with body computer, was introduced with the x250 series in 2006.

I am including a link to an online version of the appropriate section of Fiat eLearn. (Please note that I find that not all diagrams download OK with Firefox, but you should be OK for the linked lighting section.)

Please note that the diagram for the side and tail lights does not correspond with the installation on my 2006 x244. It shows the the number plate lights in parallel with the rear lights. My vehicle has both number plate lights on a separate fuse, in parallel with the instrument panel illumination.

I recently fitted a towbar and electrics to my 05 .8JTD, X244. No canbus, as per Communicators reply above, to complicate things. I have not fitted a repeater buzzer or light for the trailer indicator function, but the MOT was passed OK last week, without comment. The length of the vehicle makes this hard to do, due to voltage drops etc. When doing the electrics, make sure your cabcle and joints are clean, secure and above suspicion. Otherwise, it's all old-school and easy.
