2. Has anyone had a problem with the hand brake not holding, its had new shoes and fitting kit and rear cable replaced (this cable is not a Fiat part, but an Alco part), any help welcome

Is it a tag axle? The handbrakes on these are not the best, and there is a very specific method for adjusting the cables, search this forum, or download the elearn manual from here. I have found most garages either don't know or can't be bothered. Assuming the partsd are all in good nick and correctly supplied, all clean and free moving, then it must be adjustment. Every time mine goes for MOT, they always adjust the cable so that the brake drags, to get it to pass, and every time I have to back it off again.... It does hold quite well with only 3 clicks which I think is fine, considring its a tonne lump!

There is no glowplug timer as such. Neither is there a glowplug for each cylinder. The engine is a direct injection diesel which usually starts OK down to 0C. Below that temperature the cold start device should function automatically with control from the ECU. The device is like a mini flame thrower in the inlet manifold. See following link.

https://motor-roam.co.uk/ducato-cold-start-flame-start-system-explained

PS With the later (2000 onwards) 2.8 JTD engine 8140.43S any advancing of the injection timing will be performed by the ECU.

Read this and glad i did, i have a 2001 motorhome with the 2.8 Jtd no handbook or manual so any info about it is good to know.

My tandem axle Alko has just sailed through its mot today. No parking brake issues. Its all down to correct adjustment.
Some people say that the softness/ hardness of the shoes can make a difference. So if all adjustment is perfect, you may have got some cheap shoes, with too hard a lining material.

Jack,

If you are seeking further knowledge about your early 2.8JTD, why not download the x244 version of eLearn from the downloads section of this forum? There are also posted instructions as to how to unzip the .rar file.

While not completely applicible to your vehicle, there will be much that is generally the same. As an example under descriptions-engine-fuel system there is quite a long section about the ECU, the flame starting device, and the sensor devices. The six versions of the engine are listed. These are with/without EGR and heat flange/flame starter, plus two power versions with variable geometry turbo.

I meant to add that one Forum member, (I think that it was Ocwobio) described using eLearn as "like peeling layers off an onion".
