Apparently the stretchy belts on the X2/50 alternator and power steering pumps should be changed at 120,000 KM (74520 miles)
Anybody done them?

These are the blighters

Guy here working the belt on with a tyre lever, turning the engine in both directions, neither of which is recommended, but maybe he has managed it without straining the belt too much?
Worth seeing anyway for the quality of the picture - about 8 minutes from the start;

They shouldn't be reused once removed and have to be removed to replace the timing belt every 5 years max time. Have you done 75K since a timing belt replacement in less than 5 years? If you really need to replace them, a proper stretch belt fitting tool isn't that expensive and makes the job so much easier.

Sorry I should have said - mine is the 2.2 PSA/Ford engine with chain driven camshaft so the stretchy belts have been neglected. Quite agree about the tool and reusing the belt - although its apparently possible without the proper tool, like changing the fuel filter, if you damage it in fitting it probably isn't going to be more reliable than the old one. I wouldn't re use the old belt, just keep it in the van as an emergency get-you-home spare.

But it looks like some belt tools on the market won't fit the stepped crankshaft pulley on the 2.2? So wondered if anybody could recommend one that does?
The job looks impossible from under the bonnet, but maybe not too bad from underneath?
