Thanks the link is very useful, my friend is trying to make up a test rig for the code box, all beyond me!

hi, i'm late to this party but here's a suggestion for others to think about....

If its the key reader that's out of spec it could be that it fails to speak at the right speed to the engine ecu, and that by unplugging it/plugging it in again its ok for a while, I guess if it loses comms, then it cant talk to the ecu, but maybe there's a timeout so that it also reboots itself after some minutes, and as posted above, its fixed itself before with nothing touched so maybe.

with that as a working guess, how about making it get power from an ignition live, that way its freshly booted on every start, and its only used by the ecu in the first few seconds anyway...

also i have seen comments saying replace battery, it doesn't use the fob battery on the 05 its the simple glass bead transponder with no wiring to it.

I dont think its even rolling code etc i think its just a dogs ear tag with a predefined number?

on the older bosch ecu used in 605/xm, that had a type in your code keypad, if you typed in the code, started the engine, then removed the keypad plugs, the ecu recognised that it didnt have a keypad anymore and it would then start without a code being entered, wonder if these ecu's react the same way.. start engine, unplug reader, see if it decides to live happily ever after without one..
