Not having much luck with this,

My heater works well but only on No 4 setting, numbers 1 - 3 don't blow and i have to wait until i speed up for the warm air to come through haha.

I have checked te fuse but this seems fine, are the fans controlled by two seperate fuses? i have also checked the connection begind the toggle and it looks fine.

any comments would be appreciated

Please excuse me but i have no knowledge of cars lol im an electrician by trade but on know a little about autosparks

where will i find this resistor?

on speeds 1,2 and 3 the supply to the heater motor runs through a resistor pack thus changing the speed of the fan motor, the wires can melt at the resistor which is situated near the fan under the dashboard passengers side.

I have removed the resistor and tested the unit. Also i proved the fan connection from 1 - 2 - 3 by linking out ( fan works fine )

so...This points towards a resistor fault.

I have looked at buying a new resistor but im not having much luck, i have found a resistor for the MK2 Punto. ( is this part generic between most Fiats? )

Hello
Did you get any further with your issue - I'm currently searching for the solution to the same issue
Thank you

three possible solutions..

either the black wire has burnt out in connector,

or

the blue wire has burnt out in connector,

or like the above the resistor!!!

the connector is under the passenger side of dashboard. the connector is usually just behind the glove box

really simple.......

locate fan blower motor......

follow wires to a connector block with two large wires (one black one blue) and 1 small thin wire (green and yellow), il post a picture on end of this thread

disconnect the connector, are any of the plugs burnt melted?

cut the two large wires out of either end of the connector and use a heavy duty 25 amp plus strip connector and just simply connect these wire together, instead of using the connector block that fiat use.

don't know why they would not know using the connections in a high state amp flow circuit would simply melt.

obviously id get a new resistor from fiat as-well as doing this!!! 15GBP from dealer.

i also did the small wire so i could get rid of connector hanging around, not a problem since!!

here is connector fixed

melted like my favorite ice cream on a hot day :bang:

hope this helps you!!!

Thank you
Found resistor - no sign of any burnout in the connector but the resistor was rusty and had fluff and bits of leaves on it...
New one purchased from Fiat £28incVAT (I have aircon which seemed to make a difference)
Plugged in yesterday - fans back to normal
Thanks

i was just wondering if you can fix these resistors quite a few motors have resistor problems these days

i have fixed a few on other motors usually its bad soldering by the manufacturer lack of lead and flux these days as legislation changes

most are solder bath soldered that can make high resistance contacts

if anyone has an old one i could give it a go

also the connectors can be bought off http://www.simtekuk.co.uk/

have made replacement looms for motors
