The rear wiper motor in a 2006 Croma is identical to a Mk2 Punto onwards. All you have to do is change the spindle over for the wiper blade, as Croma one is slighter shorter. Fiat quoted £114 for a new one and stated that it was not interchangeable with other fiats! Bought one as new off Ebay for £6 and it took half an hour to take the damaged motor off, change the spindles over and re-fit. Works perfectly as new, and saved over £100!!
This wiper motor fits numerous Fiats, Saabs and Alfa's

Hi All,
I bought a mk 2 pinto one off eBay at Christmas and got around to looking at it today.

The old one came off easily enough per the head post and the only differences I can see is the wires are a different colour and the spindle on the croma is shorter as per above.

Does anyone have any idea how to change them over. Do they just pull off or is there some trick I'm missing?

I've never done one, but normally to get the spindle out you take the gearbox cover off and pull the shaft out from the gearbox end. Looking at pictures of Punto ones they seem to conform to this design. There might be a small C clip on the shaft were it comes out of the bushing. Try on the broken Croma one first and see how it comes out. Take pictures of the gears/linkages so you can get them back correctly. It does look like the Punto shaft has a cosmetic plastic sleeve on the shaft. This should just pull off.

Wasn't really too bad. There's a circlip holding on the plastic shaft cover so slipping that off is the first job once it's out of the car.

Then there's an o ring to be slipped off the shaft.

The back of the unit's easily unscrewed and then I was confronted by a mess of rust and gunge. It was rusted quite solid so I gradually worked it loose with WD40, soft taps on the end of the shaft and delicately levering it up until it all came loose.

Gave all the metal bits a good rub down with emery paper, washed it out with wd40 and then greased everything up.

Refitting was easy enough.

I noticed a bit of surface rust around the gromet so that will be a job for the spring.

Definitely a job to be tackled at home and no reason to pay the money for a proper Croma unit.(y)
