I have just had an alternator burn out - symptomswere as follows:-
Engine idling fast, battery light came on followed by all the systems load shedding one by one. Smoke then appeared from the grill just forward of the windscreen. A further two miles and a total electrics failure.
£ 184.00 plus VAT for the alternator and £315.00 labour
Had the car back 1 week and now have a mega oil leak from the offside differential oil seal. Is this a coincidence or has the shaft been disturbed in order to 'prise' the alternator out because the only way I can see the alternator being removed from then car is from underneath.
I am about to be faced with another bill for approx £250.00 to replace the seal unless I can prove otherwise. Would all FIAT guru's please reply urgently. My thanks in anticipation.
