I quite fancy getting a 9-3 Sportwagon (2-3 years old) - but then you look at the Croma with exactly the same diesel engines and it's almost half the price and probably with half the mileage!!!

A few posts on here suggest problems with the few Cromas that sold over here. Can it be that bad?

OK - it's a Fiat compared to a Saab - but then what is a Saab these days? 90% Vauxhall/Opel!

I don't expect to hear too many Saab supporters on here - but would be interested to hear from long term owners of Cromas - particularly 150JTD?

my dad has a croma 150 jtd eleganza and he loves it to bits nearly had a year now on a 2006 55 plate 22000miles no problems what so ever

i think the croma is a very good car.i dont like the look of it too much but its diffrent for a people carrier.i think the only reason the croma aint been a top seller is because nobody whants to buy a big fiat at 20 odd thousand pounds simly as it will loose too much depreciation. but 2nd hand they are very good value and you get a lot of car by the looks of things.

The Croma, like any other car has its issues.

The Saab 93 and Croma share the common GM Epsilon floor pan and front strut and rear multi-link suspension setup. I gather Fiat have made their own suspension bush changes etc. but the basic design and running gear are the same.

The current major?/obvious problem with the Croma is related to rear tyre wear. The early Vectra-C cars had this issue and to my knowledge has not yet been fully resolved. The experience/status with rear tyre wear on the later Saab-93 models does not appear to be sufficiently documented/reported to be able to make any definitive statements.

Today I looked at a colleagues Saab 93 Aero on an 04 plate.

The rear suspension is definately the same as the Croma and Vectra C.

He has had his car from new and the back tyres are 30,000+ miles old and look about 50% to 75% worn.

This would suggest that the Epsilon Multi-Link rear suspension should be able to handle 30,000 plus mileage for tyre wear.

I've also read somewhere? that Fiat changed the rubber bushings in the Croma for ride and noise improvement. Could this have had a dramatic effect on tyre wear?

More items to research and follow-up on ..... grrrrrr
