Hi there, What were these cars like in automatic? Reliable or no good? Does anyone still own an automatic version and can they post up some videos or pics please? :D

The Citymatic automatics have nothing to do with the newer ones, which use what's called a Dualogic transmission (it's crap). I've read about the Citymatic online, and it seems like it wasn't the most reliable automatic variant (they had problems with the actuator and whatnot). Avoid.

The Citymatic was just an automated clutch, the gearbox was completely manual.

Guess it is classified as an automatic for licence purposes as it only has two pedals, but you still need to change gear yourself.

Black magic and voodoo :p
Yep.

Its a hydraulic actuator.
It has "moving off" and "fast change" modes for the different speed of clutch movement.

You can think of it as a Selespeed/DuaLogic without the automated gearchange.

It would be interesting to try one. I had an Alfa Selespeed for 14 years and loved it, nothing like a "normal" traditional automatic and some people take a while to tune into it, but I loved it.
DSG now, similar but different. Easier to park as it has creep which the Selespeed didn't. The Selespeed was always tricky to reverse up close to something solid!!

Did it have switches on gear lever knob,so it knew when you changed gear???

If it was like other manufacturers then the gear lever looks identical to a fully manual but has additional hidden switches to detect when clutch needs to be operated. The Mercedes version in the old Aclass was quite good , would creep in gear to allow delicate moves but with brake pressed the creep function wouldn't engage saving clutch wear.

I remember them having gear levers, cos when they went faulty,we had a list of components, and changed them to manuals,as it was just as expensive but guaranteed not to go faulty, after warranty ran out of course.don't know if any one told DVLA. But can't remember how they worked.

Te actuators on the seicento did not last very long, fiat dealer workshops
were forever changing them eventualy we were given a good allowance to change back to manual,Any car that came in faulty we could offer the
conversion free of charge to the customer, we did lots and actually earned a profit on each job.
Plus the customers were very happy and had a more reliable car.
