Hi, I've just fitted a new outer CV boot on the O/S of my father in laws car (MOT due on Monday). Whilst it was up on axle stands I engaged gear and noticed that the N/S wheel was not spinning at all. I had a look at it and it will rotate slightly with a bit of help but then it stops. I can see it trying to move but won't move independently.
It doesn't make a noise and is relatively quiet on the road.
Now I'm going to make an a*se of myself. Is it the drive shaft itself that is faulty or is there a housing in the gearbox that the driveshaft slots into that could be at fault. I don't want to buy a replacement drive shaft and it be something in the gear box that is faulty.
Or am I going to have to take it out and have a look to try and ascertain where the fault lies.
It is an old banger and he doesn't really want to spend any money on it.
Any help/advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
