My cinq has been very noisy the past wee while, and I think I know what is wrong.. correct me if I'm wrong..

The exhaust sounds very loud and rattley when sitting still or going into reverse, as soon as theres some bite in first the noise goes away. Either this is caused by my front pipe or manifold, and possibly a buggered rear engine mount as I'm getting some noise from the gear box in low revs in the lower gears.

And also my engine is leaking oil, so I'm going to get the rocker gasket cover and sump cover replaced while I'm at it.

Could there be anything else I've not noticed that could be causing either of these problems? Someone told me to check the driveshaft seal too :bang:

Don't want to get it wrong as its going to drain the last of my wages for parts, just lucky the guy fitting them is cheap! :p

I'd say your noise could be a poorly fitted exhaust or indeed a rear gearbox mount, whichever they are relatively cheap to fix as is the leaking oil.

Good luck.

Liam

turns out its needing a new gearbox, pretty much a full exhaust (flexi, and from the cat back) :bang:

theres loads of breaking cinps on here, but iv got a 95 sx 899cc, not too many of them floating around in parts it seems :(

anybody near central scotland got one for breaking, will pick up and drive to pick up within reason. or even got a gearbox, parts of the exhaust and possibly even a new engine. the garage owner was wanting to drop in a punto gt lump and would have done it for pennies, but being 19 and insuring my first car wont agree with my bank or my wages

any help would be great folks

not tried sports car breakers, is that the one in west lothian? thats where im based. trying to find a full car preferably, but most of them have box and zorst problems.

i know it would be some work, but the boy at the garage is keen to try, but how much better do you think it would be to drop in a refurbed engine and gear box, either a 1.1 cinq, a seicento engine or even a punto lump? would it be too much to do for insuarance sakes?

sports car breakers is in between wilkieston & newbridge. not always the cheapest but there size helps to get stuff.
also get the yellow paper(adtrader or something like that) to see if anyone is selling an mot failure etc that may have the bits you need.

as for engine upgrades its quite a bit more work than on the sportings(check the FAQ in the cinq section)and i think you will find the insurance rise substantial

I might have what your looking for, and its currently in North Ayrshire.

899 Cinq, basic model but with Sporting interior. The radiator and fan are not there and the alternator is goosed, but, on standard steel wheels it would be £150, on Seicento Sporting Alloys with tyres, £225.

Interested?

Cheers

D

very interested indeed, how long do you think it will be there as i dont get paid til the end of the month, unless the fiance decided to let me borrow some ;)
if the gearbox and exhaust are fine il deffo take it, especially with the sporting interior and the alloys. just need to get the trailer sorted and the money and il give you a pm with my details as soon as i do

cheers for the help
