Right, I know this has been posted many times but I need a definitive answer as I need to buy parts

I have a Y reg 1.1 Sei SX

After reading around I can see some people say that Yreg is when they started using MPI engines, however, other say that Y reg will be SPI and some say Age isn't a good marker to go on as some will have been pre registered and others will have been registered late, when you're talking a good couple of years then its fine... but seeing as they came in in 2001... a Yreg could be either... so, heres my question.

How do I tell, what is the definitive way I can look at my car, or under my bonnet, and know if it's SPI or MPI? I need to buy parts this weekend so thanks for looking guys, and hopefully some kind soul can help, thanks guy n gals
:D

My experiance comes from "Sporting" models only.

But on Sei Sportings, its easy to tell.

On SPi engines, the airbox is a big boxy thing.
On MPi engines, the airbox is a big pancake shaped thing, with a fresh air tube running off to the right of the engine bay.

Hope this helps.

RALPH.

mine has like a square shape with rounded edges, and if you're looking head on the tube runs out of the airbox to the right and down to like the bumper and slots in a hole?

spi or mpi?
