is it safe to jack the car from the bell housing at the front ?
and will it cause any damage to the engine ?

i wouldn't i think haynes say you can jack on the bottom of diff, i wouldn't do that either, i'd jack on subfraame bolts

Or rear gearbox mount

Just think for a second what you're asking..

.. you are wanting to raise the car by the engine / gearbox. It will lift the engine and box first, and then stress the engine mounts in the opposite way in which they're intended to be and THEN it'll lift the body of the car.

So in short, no. Unless you're looking to actually lift the engine/gearbox ONLY then you've formulated a bad plan there.

First question has to be, what are you trying to do. Id use the wishbones either side if your just trying to get the ramps out.

the says in the work shop manual you can lift the front by the diff ? put a piece of wood between the jack and the car ?

It's safe. But you need the peice of wood. Details in the FIAT manuals and Porter (snagged from FIAT).
